AOL To Launch An iPad Magazine Called Editions [VIDEO]


AOL is preparing to launch a digital iPad magazine called “Editions,” which will most likely be different from the News Corp. digital magazine known as The Daily. The Editions motto is: “The Magazine That Reads You.” The Editions app will be very similar to Flipboard. Editions will find content that you like based on your interests. AOL Rumored To Be In Talks For An Acquisition Of Outside.in


Rumor has is that AOL is in talks to acquire local news aggregation company Outside.in. The talks may fall apart since it is in early stages according to BusinessInsider. Steven Johnson founded Outside.in in 2006. Investors in Outside.in include Union Square Ventures, Marc Andreessen, John Borthwick, Esther Dyson, and CNN. If AOL does end up acquiring Outside.in, it is likely that they will roll the technology into Patch.com.

Those AOL CDs From The 90′s Costed $35 Per User

AOL Buys Marketing Platform Company Pictela


AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL) has acquired Pictela, a New York City based start-up that distributes brand content across online advertising companies and social media. Pictela content is distributed through AOL, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Demand Media, Glam Media, Hearst, Time, etc. The acquisition deal is rumored to be worth about $20 million. Pictela will remain independent but will be under an AOL Advertising group. Pictel started in 2009. [TechCrunch]

Steve Case Asks AIM Team Why They Did Not Add 3G Video Calling Before Yahoo!

AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL) is planning to launch a Groupon clone called Wow! Groupon is a service where users are sent an e-mail everyday about a deal at a local venue. The coupon doesn’t work until enough people agree to use it.

AOL Acquires Thing Labs


AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL) has bought Thing Labs. Thing Labs developed the social media reader service Brizzly. Thing Labs head Jason Shellen will run AOL Lifestream, AIM, and Brizzly. He will be reporting to Brad Garlinghouse.

AOL Buys TechCrunch Network of Blogs [UPDATED]


AOL, Inc. (NYSE:AOL) has announced today that they are acquiring TechCrunch, Inc. TechCrunch operates TechCrunch.com, MobileCrunch.com, TechCrunchIT.com, MobileCrunch.com, GreenTech, TechCrunchTV, and CrunchBase.com.

AdAge.com is reporting that the deal was worth $30 million plus incentives. Michael Arrington is expected to remain at AOL/TechCrunch for up to 3 years.

Propeller.com Shuts Down


Propeller.com is a social media link-sharing website that is similar to Digg.com and Reddit.com. Somebody submits a story and if it gains enough popularity, that story hits the homepage. Propeller.com was created out of an experiment by AOL subsidiary Netscape.
