Apple Says They Are Continuing To Investigate iPhone Battery Issues


After Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) made an update to iOS 5 through the iOS 5.0.1 update, people believed that the battery issues would be fixed. But many people were still reporting that their iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 batteries were still draining quickly every day. Apple has acknowledged that the battery problem is still an issue and they are continuing to troubleshoot the issue. “The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices,” said Apple in a statement to AllThingsD. “We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

iOS 5 has Earthquake Notifications Baked In for Japan

Japanese iOS 5 users will find one very important new feature in the OS: earthquake notifications have been baked in, available at the flick of a switch in the iOS 5 Notification Center. 9to5Mac reports that the feature may drain battery life because it is always connected to the warning system, but that Japan’s system is the world’s most advanced. Japan’s earthquake warning system can give warnings from a few seconds to up to two minutes in advance of a quake. [image via @gregharbin]

The iPhone 5: a Mobile Photographer’s Dream?

There’s an entire pane on my phone dedicated to photo apps, because I’m the kind of person mobile photo apps are designed to target. If TechCrunch‘s prediction is to be believed, I may soon have an entire phone dedicated to photo apps—the iPhone 5, which will include Core Image and its newly-released long list of image control features for iOS 5. The new CI features will give iOS 5 developers more to work with and less to create from scratch, meaning easier filter creation and thus easier app creation.

Apple Plans Public Developer APIs for Face Detection for iOS 5

Apple’s upcoming iOS 5 will include some new facial recognition software, 9to5Mac reports, courtesy of the company’s 2010 purchase of Swedish company Polar Rose. The algorithms designed by Polar Rose have spawned tech called CIFaceFeature and CIDetector that could soon be part of a myriad of everyday apps. The prospect of app integration is suggested by Apple’s announcement that it plans to open the face detection software as a public developer API. OS X Lion’s Photobooth is already using some of the tech.

New Apple iOS 5 Has Notification Center, iMessage, Newsstand, Twitter Integration, Etc.


Today Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced iOS 5 at the WWDC conference in California. A beta version was released to iOS Developer Program members. iOS 5 beta has over 200 new features available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Some of the new features include:
