Google has updated the Search app for the iPhone. You will notice that the interface has been redesigned to give you faster results. There is a full-screen image search and a simple way to access all of the Google apps in one place. The app has autocompletion for search suggestions and multiple pages have a slide-in panel. At the bottom of the app is a navigational scheme that lets you easily switch between search modes as well.

Later this year Apple will start selling the next-generation iPhone, likely to be called the iPhone 5. According to sources with The Wall Street Journal, the Apple iPhone 5 will have a larger screen. It will measure at least 4 inches diagonally compared to the 3.5 inches on all of the previous iPhone generations.

This is a way for Apple to make their devices more appealing compared to rivals created by Samsung and Motorola. The Apple iPhone 5 is expected to be released by this fall. Apple is working with partners like LG Display, Sharp, and Japan Display Inc.

Apple supplier Pegatron has reportedly landed orders for the next-generation iPhone in September. Foxconn is supposedly manufacturing a new 7-inch iPad in August. DigiTimes reported the rumors after citing sources in the Taiwan technology supply chain. The report also claims that a new 10-inch iPad will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2012 and is being manufactured by Pegatron. Apple’s current 9.7-inch iPad received an update this past March with a Retina display and 4G LTE. It is just known as “Apple iPad,” but is often referred to as the iPad 3. The 7″ iPad will supposedly have a screen resolution of 1,024 by 768 pixels.

T-Mobile’s network will be compatible with the iPhone later this year even if they are not selling the device. T-Mobile is working with Ericsson and Nokia-Siemens for their $4 billion 4G LTE deployment. This addresses T-Mobile’s lack of the iPhone and a more advanced 4G LTE network. Ericsson and Nokia have experience building 4G LTE when they worked with Verizon Wireless and other telecom companies. T-Mobile also said today that they have secured spectrum from AT&T last week as part of the merger breakup fee.

Between the spectrum from AT&T and their own spectrum, T-Mobile said that they hope to cover 75% of its top 25 markets with LTE. However T-Mobile said that they lack sufficient spectrum for a broader deployment of LTE. On top of LTE, T-Mobile is focusing on HSPA+ technology, which they argue is fast enough to be called 4G. T-Mobile plans to use 1900-megahertz spectrum for their upgraded HSPA+ network and plans to have several of their markets covered by the end of the year.

For Apple’s quarter ended two weeks ago, the most important metric that analysts are looking at is how many iPhones have been sold between January 1st and March 31st. About 48 analysts have been polled and the number has been evenly divided between professional and independent sources. The independent sources tend to go on a limb than the pros. Wall Street analysts have been predicting between a range of 26 million to 33.1 million. The average by Wall Street analysts is 30.5 million, which makes year-over-year unit sales increase by about 63.8%. The independent analysts peg the number at about 37.2 million, which is a 99.9% increase from the same quarter last year. The average here is about 35 million iPhones being sold, which is an 88.5% increase year over year.

This iPhone case will add five pounds to the weight of your phone, but it promises to stop a .50 caliber round. The case has a one-inch thick steel plating on the back and is costs only $650. The front of the phone is exposed so you can still touch the screen and there is a hole etched out where the camera lens is. I can’t imagine in what situation you would be in where your phone would need protection from bullets, but it’s nice to know that there are options. The Verge has written a great article about how the iPhone could increase their screen size from 3.5 inches to 4.0 inches without messing up the apps in the Apple App Store. Apparently all Apple would need to do to design a 4-inch Retina Display is to change the aspect ratio of the iPhone display from the current 3:2 to a 9:5. “Will Apple actually do this? Well I for one would definitely welcome it. But if I were a betting man I’d have to say “probably………not”. But we live in hope,” stated Dilwar Hussain of The Verge.

Nokia has launched a new website called “Smartphone Beta Test” to promote the AT&T Lumia 900, powered by Windows Phone. The website has a countdown clock that is set to expire on April 6th and there is a video of Chris Parnell sitting in a chair looking bored. Below that video are links to three other videos that features two people convincing another person that his iPhone is working normally despite losing reception for holding it wrong, the screen washing out in the sun, and for being fragile. The ad about the phone being fragile has a date stamp that says 2007 and towards the end of the video he talks about how mortgate-backed securities are a terrific investment too. The guy talking about them has “a friend at Lehman” too.

There is an app for iOS called “Girls Around Me,” which allows you to display the public check-ins and profiles of girls around you. It essentially encourages you to stalk women. The app made a lot of people think about privacy. Foursquare said that this app is in violation of their API policy so they revoked access to Girls Around Me.
