Apple launched the Mountain Lion operating system on July 26th. The operating system exceed 3 million downloads in 4 days. By September, the operating system hit 7 million downloads. Now Mountain Lion accounts for 32% of all Apple’s web traffic as measured by Net Applications. Net Applications tracks operating system marketshare and web metrics.
“We’ve had a very busy summer for the Mac. We launched Mountain Lion in July. Mountain Lion is the 9th major release of the world’s best desktop operating system and the first very with iCloud built right in,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook at the Apple iPhone 5 event. ”Our customers have responded. They’ve downloaded 7 million copies of Mountain Lion, making it the fastest selling OS of all time.”
It has been about a month since Apple released OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Today the company has rolled out an update in the form of version 10.8.1. Several improvements have been made to Migration Assistant, Microsoft Exchange support, and an iMessages bug. Th update also fixes an issue that Thunderbolt display users had when attempting to play audio through Apple’s external monitor. To download the update go through the standard “Software Update” from the Apple menu at the top left.

Mountain Lion OS X has officially launched today. It is available for $19.99 on the Mac App Store. Some of the new features in Mountain Lion include iCloud integration with Notes and Reminders support, Notification Center, iMessage support through the Messages application, Dictation, Game Center support, and Gatekeeper security.
According to sources with 9to5Mac.com, Apple Stores will be having an overnight on Tuesday, July 24th. This includes U.S. based and international stores. Apple OS X Mountain Lion is expected to launch in July, so it is believed that the overnight may be related to Mountain Lion being launched on July 25th to the public.
Apple has confirmed that Mountain Lion has some limitations on certain 64-bit Mac models and it will extend to the final release. This means that certain 64-bit capable MacBook Pros, iMacs, and Mac Pros will be restricted from upgrading to Mountain Lion when it goes public later this month. The limitation appears to be caused by the graphics cards built into the devices. Lion is 64-bit and can run on any Core 2 or newer 64-bit Intel processor.
