Bill Gates Working On $10 Million Project To Improve Sanitation Facilities For Over 800,000 Kenyans


The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the German government is working together on a $10 million project to help improve the sanitation facilities for over 800,000 Kenyans during the next 5 years. The Foundation will also provide clean drinking water for 200,000 people. Bill Gates pointed out that about 2.5 billion people do not have a proper way to flush away excrement. Providing West-style toilets is not possible due to limited water resources. Gates Foundation Invests $2 Million In Social Media Education Company Inigral


The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has invested $2 million in social media education company Inigral. Inigral created an app on Facebook called Schools and this is the first time that the Foundation made a direct equity investment in a for-profit company.

Bill Gates Adding $100 Million To Foundation For Battling Polio [VIDEO]


Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) co-founder Bill Gates is adding $100 million to his foundation in order to battle polio. Gates made the announcement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Polio is on the verge of eradication. Polio is down from around 350,000 in 1988 to less than 1,500 last year. There have been some cases of polio in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Tajikistan, and in the Congo. [PCWorld]

Gates Foundation Working With ABC News On Global Health Initiative


The Gates Foundation and ABC News have entered a financial agreement to work on a yearlong project that relates to global health problems. The Gates Foundation supplied a grant of $1.5 million and ABC is providing $4.5 million of their own.

Bill Gates Investing $33 Million In Charity For Fighting TB In China

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has announced that his foundation will be donating $33 million in charity to help fight tuberculosis in China. Through the joint partnership between the Chinese government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, there will be new tests and treatments for tuberculosis offered in China.

The new program will be tested in six provinces before expanding the program to over 100 million people within 5 years. Tuberculosis kills over 200,000 people per year in China. China accounts for 15% of everyone that is infected with the disease.

In the pilot program, there will be several tests that shrink the diagnosis time from weeks to hours. This will be especially noticeable in cases where forms of TB are able to resist the traditional treatments.
