Yahoo! chief product officer Blake Irving has decided to quit the company. It was not because of the recent 2,000 employee layoff because Irving’s resignation has been in the worlds for a while. Irving’s departure comes at a time that Yahoo! CEO Scott Thompson decided to try and sell parts of the business that would otherwise be under Irving.
Yahoo! Acquires IntoNow, “The Shazam of TV,” For Between $20-$30 Million

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has acquired IntoNow for between $20-$30 million. IntoNow is like the “Shazam of TV.” IntoNow’s SoundPrint platform allows mobile app users to listen to a TV show and it will find a match within 4-12 seconds of listening to the audio. IntoNow will notify the user about the individual episode being watched.

Yahoo! Launching A Social Magazine For Tablets Called Livestand

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has announced a new “social magazine” application made for tablets called Livestand. Livestand will let you view stories that are spreading quickly through social media. It is expected to launch in the first half of the year. “Tablets are great for a laid back experience, but most magazine content remains trapped online,” stated Yahoo! chief product officer Blake Irving. “But consumers don’t want a digitized experience. Yahoo! Rumored To Be Laying Off 10% Of Workforce

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) is preparing to lay-off a large number of employees according to a source with TechCrunch and AllThingsD. TechCrunch reported that the company is laying off 20% and Yahoo! personally responded that this figure was 20%. AllThingsD is reporting that Yahoo! is going to lay off 650 people, or 10% of their total employees.
