Fresco Microchip Raises $10 Million From Celtic House and Ventures West

Fresco Microchip is a Markham, Ontario based company that makes semiconductors for processing chips made for television sets. Fresco has just raised $10 million in venture capital funding from Celtic House Venture Partners and Ventures West.

“Fresco’s success is proof that the lowest cost appropriate solution always wins in the consumer electronics industry,” stated Fresco Microship CEO and President Lance Greggain. “We are pleased with the confidence and commitment to Fresco demonstrated by this latest investment from Canada’s leading venture capital firms.”

This is Fresco’s third major round of funding. The company raised $14.7 million in July 2005 and $14 million in January 2008.

VirtenSys Raises $16 Million Series C

VirtenSys is a U.K. based company with headquarters in the U.S. The company recently announced that they have raised $16 million Series C.

VirtenSys raised the funding from Scottish Equity Partners, Gimv, and Celtic House Venture Partners.  VirtenSys develops virtual systems that includes software and semiconductors.

VirtenSys helps cut down server space and costs for their clients.  Energy usage is also cut down.  VirtenSys CEO Ahmet Houssein announced in February that the company raised $30 million from three venture capital firms.

VirtenSys employs about 45 people.  Company revenues are expected to be about $50 to $100 million next year.
