A lawmaker in New Jersey has introduced a bill that would let Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) continue selling its electric vehicles directly to consumers again. This practice was banned by the state two weeks ago. Assemblyman Tim Eustace introduced the bill following the March 11th vote of the eight-member state Motor Vehicle Commission.
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) will be converting stores in New Jersey to showrooms on April 1st due to state legislature. The Motor Vehicle Commission in New Jersey voted against Tesla’s direct sales model in the state. On Tuesday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said at a town hall meeting that he was simply enforcing laws and that it is the state legislature that pushed Tesla Motors out from selling directly in the state, according to The Star-Ledger.
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is going to turn its store in Paramus, New Jersey into a gallery for now. It is being converted because the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission voted against Tesla’s direct sales strategy in favor of car dealerships.
New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle Commission made a vote on Tuesday that blocks automakers like Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) from selling cars directly to consumers without going through a dealer. Tesla Motors uses showrooms for consumers to come in and customize vehicles electronically before making a direct sales order.

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is one of the many donors that has put money into the campaigns for both Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Cory Booker and Republican Governor Chris Christie. Other donors that put money into their campaigns include LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Home Depot co-founder Kenneth Langone, and Marc Andreessen. Twenty people have given the two politicians a total of $258,000. Booker received $170,600 from the 20 donors and Christie received $87,400.
Last month we wrote about how Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg would be hosting a fundraiser for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie at his home with his wife Priscilla Chan. Guests at the event included Condoleezza Rice. Governor Chris Christie is seeking re-election this year and has been raising funds in California since February 11th. During the event, there was around 40 protestors outside.
