BlipSnips Makes Facebook Video Uploading More Social, Receives Investment From Chris Kelly

BlipSnips is a company that has created a social video experience on the iPhone. The BlipSnips iPhone and iPod application [iTunes Link] lets you record video, add captions, and tag your Facebook friends. There is no limit on the video length either.

The BlipSnips app has easy-to-use gesture-based tagging and an upload queue. The tags also makes the video have searchable data. After downloading the app and connecting it to Facebook, you are asked to create a BlipSnip. You can create a BlipSnip either by recording a new video or choosing an existing video from your iOS device. The video is then compressed and gets added to the edit queue. After you are done editing the video, you can upload it to Facebook where your friends can watch it.

BlipSnips is based in Boulder, Colorado and they have received a seed investment from Chris Kelly, the former chief privacy officer of Facebook who attempted to run for the California Attorney General last year. Kelly is also an advisor on the company board of directors.

Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina Progess In Political Careers

Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman (pictured left) and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina (pictured right) are progressing in their political careers. Whitman won the Republic nomination for governor of California and Fiorina won the U.S. Senate primary election.

Whitman and Fiorina is competing against Democrat rivals Gov. Jerry Brown and Sen. Barbara Boxer. Boxer has been in the U.S. Congress for almost 28 years.

Chris Kelly, former Facebook privacy chief attempted to run for the Attorney General of California too. He put in about $12 million of his own money into the campaign. He received a loan from a Delaware-based private equity company to exercise stock options in Facebook. He sold enough stock options to power his campaign.

It was reported that Whitman put in about $80 million of her own money to compete against California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner. Whitman left eBay in 2008 and Fiorina was asked to step down in February 2005. [CNET]

Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly Running For Attorney General of California

Chris Kelly is making an attempt to return to politics. Kelly is the former Clinton campaign and White House staff member. Kelly is currently the Facebook chief privacy officer and head of public policy.

“Ever since I worked in public life when I was very young, I thought it was something that I might do at some point,” stated Kelly. “Over the past few years at Facebook, it’s become clear to me that the role of the attorney general is incredibly able to help make change in the world, and that’s what I got into technology to do, too.”

While Kelly’s team is campaigning, he will be staying with Facebook. He also implied that he will not formally step down from the company unless he wins the election.
