Dan Gilbert leads $40 million investment in RapGenius

Dan Gilbert, one of the must successful businessmen in Detroit, has led a $40 million investment in RapGenius. Gilbert is best known for being the founder of Quicken Loans, co-founder of Detroit Venture Partners, and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers — which just brought LeBron James back to the team. 
Gilbert is best known RapGenius is known for decoding and annotating rap lyrics. RapGenius faced quite a bit of controversy for getting banned from Google by asking bloggers to link to them in exchange for a tweet about their website. RapGenius co-founder Mahbod Moghadam was recently fired for annotations he made about Elliot Rodger.

Warren Buffett and Dan Gilbert will pay $1 billion to the person(s) that fills out a perfect NCAA bracket

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and Dan Gilbert’s Quicken Loans are going to award anyone that fills out a perfect 2014 Men’s NCAA Tournament bracket with $1 billion. The prize is going to be paid in 40 annual installments of $25 million. If there is more than one winner, the prize will be shared. The winner or winners can also ask for a lump sum payment.

Twitter has acquired Bluefin, a TV analytics company.  This acquisition is believed to be Twitter’s large acquisition to date.  Twitter definitely spent over $40 million on the acquisition since that is what they spent on TweetDeck two years ago.

Are You A Human Launches PlayThru To Replace CAPTCHA With Games

Are You A Human is a Detroit-based startup company that is working on ways to replace CAPTCHA, the security feature on websites where you have to re-write gibberish text to prove that you are a human and not a spammer bot. Are You A Human has just launched a cloud-based game called PlayThru. PlayThru involves playing a mini game to prove that you are a human. For example, you may have to drag food items into a fridge or drag a motorcycle into an empty parking spot. I’d much prefer doing this than filling out text that is often times unreadable.

Twitter Opening A Detroit Office In The M@dison Building

Yahoo! veteran and sales head at Twitter Greg Myrick is spearheading the opening of a Twitter office in Detroit. The Twitter Detroit office will be working closely with automotive companies and local ad agencies. The Twitter Detroit office will be based in the M@dison Building, which is a 100-year old co-working space revamped by Quicken Loans founder and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Gilbert led the talks with Twitter for opening an office there.
