Tumblr is a popular blogging service that has raised $85 million in a new round of funding. Tumblr is best known for simple blogging tools to post photos, videos, songs, etc. The investment in this round was led by Greylock Partners. Insight Venture Partners, the Chernin Group, Richard Branson, Spark Capital, Union Square Ventures, and Sequoia Capital also participated in this round.

Tumblr and 4Chan are in the middle of a DDoS attack war. Users at 4Chan and Tumblr have been attacking each other’s servers. 4Chan was down today and it is a possibility that Tumblr decided to push up their attack time to earlier. Tumblr founder David Karp said “As always, we’re aggressively suspending any accounts encouraging DoS attacks or other illegal behavior.” The conflict between the two took place when a 4chan user accused Tumblr users of stealing meme ideas from their forum boards. Tumblr is growing at a rapid pace. They hit 6 million users and just hit about 1.5 billion pageviews per month (Quantcast). About a year ago, Tumblr saw about 255 million pageviews. In November of last year, it was up to 420 million pageviews.

Blog platform company Tumblr.com, founded by David Karp in 2007, is growing at a rapid pace.  Like any other social media platform, traditional media outlets are exploring how to get on board.

Blog platform company Tumblr has raised $5 million from Spark Capital and Union Square. Tumblr currently has 4.5 million users and hits about 1 billion page views per month. Tumblr founder David Karp is not a fan of advertising so he is trying to find ways to make money through other forms, such as virtual stickers and premium themes. Tumblr is based in New York and was founded in 2007. The company raised a total of $10 million in funding.

David Karp did a presentation in Spain recently and reported some of the stats around the blogging service. Tumblr has over 2 million Tumblr bloggers, 40 million new posts per month, 420 million impressions, and 20 million visitors. On average Tumblr adds about 10,000 new people every day.

Tumblr has about 10 full-time employees. The company has about $5.25 million in funding. Karp said that they have about 2 years of runway left before running out of cash. Some of Tumblr’s users include John Legend, Katy Perry, etc. Tumblr has funding from Union Square Ventures, Betaworks, and Spark Capital.
