Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is rumored to be working on a new Kindle Paperwhite with 300 pixels per inch (ppi). The new Kindle Paperwhite is expected to arrive in Q2 2014. The new Kindle Paperwhite e-reader would have 300 ppi compared to the current 212 ppi in the current model. The device has the code-name Ice Wine, which would also have hardware improvements.
E Ink Holdings Posts
E Ink has acquired e-paper company SiPix through a share buy-out worth around NT$1.5 billion ($50.1 million). It is unknown what E Ink will be planning on doing with SiPix. E Ink is going to “diversify into newer applications” beyond just the Kindle Touch and the Nook Simple Touch. The deal is expected to close this fall. Check out the press release below:
According to DigiTimes, EPD maker E Ink Holdings has received orders for 6-inch color e-book reader modules from Amazon.com with shipments expected to start in March. DigiTimes grabbed this report from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News. Shipments of the 6-inch e-book reader modules are expected to hit about 3 million units per month.
According to upstream suppliers, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has made some OEM orders from Quanta Computer. Amazon.com made the orders for tablet PCs. The tablets will also receive support from E Ink Holdings for touch panels and Fringe Field Switching (FFS) technology. The monthly orders are expected to hit about 700,000-800,000 during the peak season. During the second half of 2011, these orders are expected to contribute over $3.5 billion to Quanta’s 2011 revenues. [DigiTimes]
