Apple iTunes Hits 25 Billion Songs Sold

Apple Inc. has hit 25 billion songs sold on iTunes.  The 25 billionth song is called “Monkey Drums” (Goksel Vancin Remix) by Chase Buch.  The song was purchased by Phillip Lüpke from Germany.  Phillip will receive a €10,000 iTunes Gift Card as a reward for downloading the 25 billionth song.

How Apple’s Acquisition Of Lala Happened

In December 2009, Apple acquired Lala.com.  Lala was a music streaming startup that was founded by Bill Nguyen and was funded partially by Warner Music Group.  Lala’s strength was that when you searched on Google for a song, Lala was one of the first results instead of an iTunes result.  Lala ended up partnering with Google for Google Music Beta.  Apple’s Eddy Cue felt threatened by Lala so a bidding war was starting to heat up.

Eddy Cue Joins Ferrari Board Of Directors

Ferrari has announced that Eddy Cue has joined the board of directors at the company.  Mr. Cue is known for heading up the Apple iTunes Store.  He recently took over the development of iOS Maps and Siri.

Apple Announces Management Changes, Scott Forstall Reportedly Forced Out For Not Apologizing Over Maps

Apple iOS software chief Scott Forstall was let go from the company. According to The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Forstall was let go from Apple because he refused to sign a letter apologizing for problems with Apple Maps. Mr. Forstall was known for constantly disagreeing with employees at Apple and “never fit into the culture.” He also had a tendency to show off his close relationship with late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Apple iTunes U Hits 300 Million Downloads


Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has announced that they have hit the 300 million download mark for iTunes U. It took about three years to hit this mark. About 800 universities have iTunes U websites. Half of that number of universities distribute content on iTunes too.
