Enflick Raises $1 Million In Seed Funding

Enflick is a company that has developed the applications TextNow and PingChat. Enflick has raised $1 million in seed funding. Freestyle Capital was the lead investor in this round. Menlo Ventures Talent Fund, Troy Carter (Lady Gaga’s manager), and Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber’s manager) also participated in this round.

Enflick was co-founded by Derek Ting and Jon Lerner. Enflick has sent out over 300 million text messages through TextNow. PingChat and TextNow served over a billion impressions per month with 21.5 million users. Enflick is profitable and they plan on using the funds for future product development.

Cloud Database Company MongoLab Raises $3 Million From Multiple Investors

San Francisco based cloud database company ObjectLabs has raised $3 million in Series A funding led by Foundry Group, GRP Partners, Baseline Ventures, Freestyle Capital, David Cohen, and a few others. ObjectLabs is best known for launching the database-as-a-service company MongoLab. MongoLab is the database-as-a-service provider for MongoDB. 10gen‘s MongoDB is used by companies like Foursquare, Bit.ly, and Etsy.

MongoLab provides cloud-based hosting services for MongoDB users on Amazon EC and Rackspace. MongoLab also can manage replication and back-up data on cloud servers.

“Developers have spent the better part of their careers writing code to change the shape of their data between object form and relational form. I recently heard one VP of Engineering refer to it as ‘our Vietnam’”, stated MongoLab CEO Will Shulman. “Since JSON is an object format, MongoDB makes a lot of these problems disappear. Developers have been waiting years for something like this.”

Social Analytics Start-Up BackType Raises Over $1 Million

BackType is a social analytics company that allows you to enter a URL to find out how big the website’s social media impact is. When you enter a URL, it shows the number of Twitter followers, retweets, Reddit comments, Hacker News comments, Digg comments, etc. that is related to that particular URL. The investors in the $1 million seed round was led by True Ventures, K9 Ventures, Freestyle Capital, Lowercase Capital, 500 Startups, Founder Collective, Raymond Tonsing, and several other angel investors.

BackType raised $315,000 in seed funding from True Ventures and Y Combinator. Currently BackType’s free analytics service is in private beta. They plan on making money by offering paid premium services. BackType plans on using the funding to grow their team and launch the paid analytics platform, which is expected to launch later this year.

CoTweet Raises $1.1 Million From Several VC Firms

CoTweet is a startup that has built a Twitter platform for helping companies reach and engage customers. CoTweet has several prominent companies using their platform such as Ford, Starbucks, Microsoft, Sports Illustrated, Zendesk, and Dish Network.

CoTweet announced earlier this week that they have raised $1.1 million in first round funding from Baseline, Founders Fund, First Round Capital, SV Angel, Maples Investments, and Freestyle Capital.

The company platform has the ability to manage multiple tools and accounts at once. Several people also have the ability to post to a single account using the CoTweet platform.

CoTweet is available for free as of right now but the company will eventually charge for their services. “CoTweet is an essential tool that allows us to manage multiple accounts from a single dashboard, or have a single account with multiple people managing it,” stated Scott Monty, the digital and multimedia communications manager at Ford Motor Company in a press release. “We can also identify who’s responsible for Tweets, which gives us the flexibility to pull experts into the discussion, and to keep a human face while doing so.”
