Google Apps is online software that Google created to compete with Microsoft Office. Google has launched a new service called Google for Nonprofits. The program allows non-profit organizations discounts for Google Apps subscriptions. The U.S. General Services Administration is switching 17,000 employees and contractors to Google Apps for Government. GSA runs the real estate and building management services for the U.S. federal government. Google Apps worked on an RFP for the GSA over the past 6 months. (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced today that they are now letting Google Apps customers add third-party applications to GMail. “Starting today, third party developers can build Gmail contextual gadgets and distribute them in the Google Apps Marketplace. These gadgets can display information from social networks, business services, web applications and other systems, and users can interact with that data right within Gmail,” stated Google Apps extensions Product Manager Chandrashekar Raghavan.
