WATCH: Google Releases Nexus 7 Commercial

Google has released a commercial of the new Nexus 7 tablet called “Nexus 7: Camping.” The commercial features a father and son going camping while bonding over the tablet. Google has started shipping pre-orders of the Nexus 7 two weeks ago, but they have been out of stock at many locations since then. Google said that they are receiving “incredible demand” for the product. Check out the commercial below:

The 16GB Google Nexus 7 is now sold out at retailers and Google Play itself. Google Play currently only has the 8GB model in stock. The 16GB version is listed as “coming soon.” Retailers like GameStop, Staples, and Office Depot are in the process of trying to get the device back in stock.

Instagram Updates App To Support Nexus 7 and Flickr Sharing


Instagram has been updated to support the Google Nexus 7 tablet.  Instagram version 1.1.7 for Android can use the Nexus 7′s 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera to take your photo and filter them with the different designs.  You can also share your Instagram photos directly to Flickr in the sharing menu once you save the image.  If you want to download Instagram for Android, click on this Google Play link.

Google Starts Shipping Nexus 7 In The U.K.

Google has started shipping the Google Nexus 7 tablet in the United Kingdom through Currys and PCWorld according to TheInquirer.  Currys and PC World are currently only selling the higher end 16GB model as of right now with a retail cost of £199.99.  The Google Nexus 7 has not been restocked at the Google Play store and shipping is expected to happen in “one to two weeks.”  The Nexus 7 has an NVIDIA 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 7-inch touchscreen, 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera, NFC, WiFi connectivity, Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and Google Chrome web browser.

Major retailers are reporting that the Google Nexus 7 tablet is selling at a rapid pace. GameStop reported that they ran throught their first two allocations of the tablet that was built out a partnership between Google and Asus. The tablet price starts at $199. Sam’s Club reported the device as being out of stock on their website as of Friday. Consumers are still able to pre-order the device from Google Play. “We blew through the first two allotments,” stated a GameStop spokesperson said. A third allotment will be made available in August.

Google has started shipping the Nexus 7 tablet. Google made the announcement on the Google Play account within the Google+ social network. “Locked and loaded, ready to play: we’ve started shipping +Nexus 7 pre-orders today!” said Google this morning.

iSuppli Reveals Google Nexus Costs About $152 To Build

The Google Nexus 7 components look similar to the Kindle Fire when you bust it open according to IHS iSuppli. The Nexus 7 appears to cost $151.75 to build and it sells for $199. This means that the mark-up is decent, but not great for the bottom line. The higher end 16GB Nexus 7 sells for $249 and costs $159.25 to build. Andrew Rassweiler, the guy that led the teardown team at IHS iSuppli, said that Google would break even on the 8GB model, but would make a solid profit on the 16GB model.

Teardown Reveals That Nexus 7 Is Easier To Repair Than The iPad

According to iFixit.com, the Nexus 7 will be easier to repair than the iPad and will live longer than the Kindle Fire. The Google Nexus 7 is 10.4 mm thick versus the 9.4 mm thickness for the iPad. The Nexus 7 is held together with plastic clips instead of being sealed with glue.
