Hulu announced yesterday via the Hulu Blog that Hulu Plus will now be available on Android smartphones. The app is currently only available on six phones: Nexus One and Nexus S; Motorola Droids II, X and Atrix; and HTC Inspire 4G. Consumers with the right phones are excited, but most Android phones are left without the upgrade and, as Gizmodo notes, Hulu Plus is not offered for any of the Android tablets. The Android Market promises announcements of other supported devices in the future, but no word on exactly when those updates will happen.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is rumored to be working on a mobile payment service that will be revealed on May 26th. The service would be expected to work on Sprint Nextel Corp. according to three sources with Bloomberg. The Google mobile payment service would allow Android users with specially equipped phones to pay for goods and receive coupons with their handsets. The mobile payment technology service is currently built into the Nexus S Android device on Sprint.
According to a study by Blaze Software, Android phones load websites faster than the iPhone. The iPhone’s media load time is 3.2 seconds and the load of time of webpages on the Nexus S is 2.1 seconds. Blaze did 45,000 tests and the Android won 84% of the time. Most of the tests were done over WiFi and some were done with the 3G connection.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has announced that the Nexus S is now available in the U.S. The Nexus S has a 4″ Contour Display and a 1GHz Hummingbird processor. The phone is powered by the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system. You can buy it now from Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the U.S. and online. Buest Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) will be selling the Google Nexus S this Thursday on a first-come, first-serve basis. All Best Buy stores will open at 8AM local time and online sales will begin at 8AM Eastern Time to align with the retail launch in the east coast. Customers will be limited to 2 phones per person. Inventory varies from store-to-store. The phone costs $199 with a contract, $249.99 with an add-a-line activation, and $529 contract-free. Full press release below:
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired a near field communications company based in Toronto called Zetawire. Zetawire focuses on accepting mobile payment transactions. While Zetawire has not established much of a company yet, but they hold a very valuable patent.
In late October, the Gingerbread man statue arrived at the Google campus headquarters in Mountain View, California. And today Google has announced that the Gingerbread version 2.3 of the Android platform is available. The company has also announced the latest Android device from the Nexus line of mobile devices. The Nexus S, powered by Gingerbread, is the lead device for the new Android version launch.
