Google Acquires Local Deals Site The Dealmap

The Dealmap announced via their blog today that the company has been acquired by Google. The Dealmap is a local deals aggregate site, and says that “for the time being, we will continue to support The Dealmap’s core products and partner services.” The move follows Google’s failed attempt to buy Groupon for $6 million in late 2010, and indicates that Google is not ready to give up on the local deals game. Google has already launched Google Offers, and The Dealmap’s tech will likely be integrated into that service.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is preparing to launch a Groupon competitor called Google Offers. “Google Offers is a new product to help potential customers and clientele find great deals in their area through a daily email,” stated a fact sheet leaked by Mashable. The fact sheet, which was made public, has been deleted.
