Google Inc (GOOGL) buys cloud monitoring service Stackdriver

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has announced today it has acquired cloud monitoring service Stackdriver. Stackdriver’s services will be rolled into Google Cloud Platform in the next several months. The financial details were undisclosed. However, we do know that Stackdriver raised a total of $15 million in venture capital across two rounds led by Bain Capital and Flybridge Capital so it is likely that the price was quite a bit higher than that.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has acquired Appetas, a service where restaurants can instantly build websites for themselves. It allows restaurants to integrate services like GrubHub and OpenTable as well. Google is going to shutdown Appetas following the acquisition.

Google Inc (GOOGL) launches Classroom tool for teachers to manage assignments


Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has announced a new free tool for teachers called Classroom. Classroom is a part of the Google Apps for Education suite of products. Classroom lets teachers create and organize assignments. It can also be used for providing feedback to students and communicate with classes. The service is still in preview-mode. Google Inc (GOOGL), Intel Corporation (INTC) reveal new Chromebooks with several OEM partners

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) have announced several new Chromebook laptops made by Acer, Asus, Dell, Lenovo and Toshiba at a press event today. Google said that Chromebooks will be getting Google Now integration and will have the ability to play Google Play movies and TV shows offline.

Google Inc (GOOGL) buys online attribution company Adometry

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is acquiring a company that will help advertisers get a better idea of how their online ad campaigns work. Based in Austin, Texas, Adometry specializes in technology called online ad attribution, which credits various online ads for influencing a person to take an action like clicking an ad or buying something. The terms of the deal were undisclosed. Google said that the acquisition does not pass through any regulatory hurdles though.

Google adds Uber integration and lane guidance to Maps iOS app

Google has added several features to Google Maps for the iPhone and iPad, including lane guidance for the U.S. and Canada and the ability to save maps for offline use. Google also added filtered searches for points-of-interest by category, pricing, and hours.

Google Inc (GOOGL) is not on the hook for covering Samsung patent damages

Apple and Samsung recently faced off in a patent trial and it was revealed that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) agreed to help pay the bill for Samsung’s legal costs and indemnify the company for any damages connected to two specific Apple patents: patent ’959 (Unified Search) and patent ’414 (asynchronous data synchronization).

Google X spinoff Flux raises $8 million

Google X, the research and development arm of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) that works on “moonshot” projects, spun out a company called
Flux. Flux has now raised $8 million in Series A funding led by DFJ with participation from Google Ventures, Borealis Ventures, and Andreessen Horowitz. Flux is developing collaborative software to make it easier for designing buildings cheaper and more sustainable.
