The Pirate Bay Founder Gottfried Svartholm Was Arrested After A $59M Swedish Aid Package For Cambodia

Yesterday we wrote about how Swedish “The Pirate Bay” co-founder Gottfrid Svartholm was arrested in Cambodia last week.  There has been speculation about whether the U.S. or Sweden had “paid off” the Cambodian government to arrest Svartholm.  There was not supporting evidence claims that a deal had existed.

The Pirate Bay Co-Founder Gottfrid Svartholm Arrested In Cambodia

The Pirate Bay Co-Founder Gottfrid Svartholm was arrested in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.  He is known for his username Anakata on The Pirate Bay.  Svartholm was sentenced to one year of jail time for being involved in The Pirate Bay, but was missing for a long time.  He was wanted internationally and the arrest was made this past Thursday.

The Pirate Bay Founders’ Appeal To Supreme Court Rejected


The Supreme Court in Sweden has decided not to grant an appeal for the founders of The Pirate Bay torrent website. This means that Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström will have to serve their jail sentences. The three of them were found guilty of criminal copyright infringement.
