Hollywood Interactive Group Inc. has announced that they have raised $5 million in Series A for their site, MyHollywood.com. The round of funding was led by Menlo Park, Calif.-based BlueRun Ventures. This round of funding will be used by Hollywood Interactive to design additional platforms, MyHollywood.com being the first. MyHollywood.com is intended to be a celebrity and entertainment news website that focuses on women. There will also be a community built around fashion and casual games.

“This funding represents a tremendous vote of confidence in MyHollywood.com and recognizes the incredible revenue opportunities driven by our audience on the Internet,” stated Joey Carson, CEO of Hollywood Interactive Group. “BlueRun Ventures has been a great strategic partner and ally for our business and we look forward to their continued support as we develop the first MMO experience designed specifically for the millions of women who love celebrity news, casual games and shopping.”

MyHollywood.com’s signature game is Red Carpet Game. The Red Carpet game features celebrity mini-quizzes, mini-games, avatars, virtual items, etc. MyHollywood.com plans to make money from virtium goods, pre-paid cards, ads, revenue sharing initiatives, etc.

“With MyHollywood.com, Hollywood Interactive Group will entice their female audience by empowering them to collect virtual items and elevate their in-game status by doing the things they already love: participating in social groups and forums, reading entertainment news, playing casual mini-games and virtually shopping for their favorite high-fashion items,” stated Jonathan Ebinger, Partner of BlueRun Ventures. “Hollywood
Interactive Group is a great complement to our Media and Internet portfolio.”

Hollywood Interactive Group is based in Los Angeles, Calif. Other features of MyHollywood.com includes photos, shopping, astrology, MyStar Closet, MyStar Profile, and forums. Personally I think this site’s design looks like it was made in the 1990s. Judging by the site’s favicon, it looks like that it was built around a specific CMS platform too, but I don’t remember the name of it.
