As part of a way to phase out the HP TouchPad, Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) held a fire-sale of the tablet on eBay. The company ended up selling less than 8,000 of the tablets. HP sold about 2,316 of the $99 refurbished 16GB TouchPads and 5,534 of the $149 32GB TouchPads. Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) has announced that developers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe will have a chance to buy a 32GB HP TouchPad for $150 or €150 in Europe for a limited time and while supplies last. It is unknown how many TouchPads are available for sale, but HP is allowing applicants to request up to two TouchPads at the discounted price. Anyone who is interested would have to apply by November 18th. If they receive an acceptance, then the coupon will have to be redeemed before November 27th. This past weekend, HTC had a fire sale. Prices of the TouchPad dropped from $399 to $99 for the 16GB version of the tablet and $499 to $149 for the 32GB version of the tablet. Due to the huge drop, the HP TouchPad device shot up to the top of Amazon.com’s most demanded product. The massive drop in price is due to HP’s announcement that they will be abandoning webOS-powered devices. The price of the tablets have dropped in the United Kingdom now too: £89 ($146) for the 16GB version and £115 ($189) for the 32GB version. [Engadget]

Hewlett Packard has announced that the HP TouchPad tablet is arriving on July 1st. This is the first webOS-powered tablet being sold by HP. The features of the tablet include a 9.7-inch XGA display, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and NFC capabilities. Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) European head Eric Cador has high hopes for the HP TouchPad tablet. While at a press conference at Cannes, Cador said “in the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. Hewlett Packard will be selling the 32GB HP TouchPad at Wal-Mart for $599 according to a tipster with PreCentral. This is comparable to Apple’s 32GB WiFi iPad 2. Wal-Mart will also carry the TouchPad-compatible Touchstone Dock/Stand. The Touchstone price is expected to be about $79.88.
