Google’s mobile operating system is spreading like wildfire.  HTC has just announced that they have sold over one million units of the HTC Magic.  Not bad considering that the HTC Magic mobile phone was introduced this month in the U.S.

In the U.S., the HTC Magic is known as the myTouch 3G.  The HTC myTouch 3G / Magic mobile phone is a touch-screen handset that is similar to the G1.  The phone comes with a QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, and an HTML browser.

An anonymous tipster for Engadget has sent over a picture of a box that shows the name of the new HTC phone that will be powered by Android.  It is not going to be called the HTC Magic, the HTC Sapphire, or the HTC G2.  Instead, it will be called the HTC myTouch 3G.  The phone will be available in three different colors and is expected to be available around August.  I think the myTouch has a better ring to it then the other code names from before.

The HTC Magic, also known as the Sapphire has cleared through the FCC. Before it was uncertain which phone company the HTC Magic would be powered by, but now images have leaked of the phone with the T-Mobile logo etched on it.  So we know now that this phone is making its way to T-Mobile, but what we don’t know is what name they’ll end up using.

We already know that the HTC Magic and the Android Hero have been revealed, but recently HTC CEO Peter Chou announced that the company will ship at least three smartphones powered by Google Android this year.  HTC was the first company to reveal the Android operating system with the G1 last year.

The HTC Magic, known as the G2 is being sold in Europe through Vodafone.  Chou made the announcement at the Merrill Lynch technology conference in Taipei.

This is good news for developers of applications on the Android Market.  More phones equals more sales of applications.
