About $2.5 million was spent on the redesign of WhitePages.com. This is the first time that WhitePages.com was redesigned in about a decade. The website receives about 24 million unique visitors per month. “It’s been a hell of a lot of work,” stated WhitePages VP of Marketing John Lusk.
“People continued to just think of us as the online version of the phone book versus the place where everyone can find each other and connect,” stated Lusk. Now WhitePages.com is encouraing users to create personal profiles, add cellphone numbers, and e-mail addresses.
During the testing phase of the website, about one million e-mails and cellphone numbers were added to the site despite the skepticism people may have about leaving personal information public. The site was redesigned using Ruby on Rails.
