LG Buys webOS Software and Intellectual Property From HP For Future Smart TVs

LG Electronics has acquired the software and intellectual property rights for webOS from HP.  HP acquired webOS developer Palm for roughly $1.2 billion back in April 2012.  After creating new smartphones and tablets using webOS, HP stopped making them due to weak sales.  So HP decided to open source the operating system in December 2011.

The Mozilla Smartphone Will Be On Sprint

Mozilla has announced progress about their upcoming smartphone.  Manufacturing companies like LG, Huawei, TCL, and ZTE will be working on the Mozilla smartphone.  Mozilla showed models of the phones from TCL and ZTE at a telecommunications industry meeting in Barcelona, Spain.

LG Optimus G Pro Is Coming To North America In Q2 2013

LG has confirmed that the LG Optimus G Pro is expected to arrive in the United States starting in Q2 2013.  A specific date and price is not yet known.  The LG Optimus G Pro has a 5.5″ Full HD IPOS display, 1920 x 1080 resolution, quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, a 3,140mAh battery, and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

LG Is Investing $656.7 Million In OLED Production

LG Display is investing over $600 million to create a new production line to mass produce thinner and energy efficient displays for TVs in order to effectively compete against Samsung for the OLED market.  The company plans to focus on building OLED panels at an existing plant in Paju, a city that is north of Seoul, South Korea.  LG is going to be investing 706 billion won (around $656.7 million U.S.) until June 30 next year to install a production line and begin mass production.

LG and Samsung Resolve Their OLED and LCD Lawsuits

LG and Samsung have resolved their lawsuits regarding OLED patents.  In September 2012, LG filed a lawsuit against Samsung regarding OLED display and filed a countersuit in November 2012.  The two companies have settled outside of court after a government ministry persuaded the CEOs of LG Display and Samsung Display to meet at a hotel in Seoul.

The LG Hecto 100-Inch Laser TV Projector Is Coming In March

Earlier this month, LG Electronics announced that the Hecto Laser TV projector will be available in March.  The Hecto can project a 100-inch screen from only 22 inches away.  The Hecto can project in 1080p and it has 3 HDMI ports, a built-in TV tuner, and optical audio out.  The Hecto has direct access to LG’s Smart TV app platform and can be controlled with the LG Magic Remote.  The project has a 1,000,000 : 1 contrast ratio and is compatible with both WiDi and Miracast.  The Hecto can be run for up to 25,000 hours of use without replacement.  The pricing and availability is not yet known.  Below is the press release:

The LG Nexus 4 Has Returned To The Google Play

If you want to get your hands on the LG Nexus 4, you will now be able to get it from the U.S. Google Play store.  The Nexus 4 has been selling like burgers at a McDonalds.  The 8GB version is selling for $299 and the 16GB version is selling for $349.  The order is expected to ship within 2 weeks.  The phone should also be available in the Canada and Germany Google Play store as of right now.  [Source: TechCrunch]

The LG H160 That Has An 11.6-Inch Screen and 12 Hours Battery Life

The LG H160 is a slider tablet PC that has an 11.6-inch screen and 12 hours of battery life.  The H160 has 12 hours of battery life and a 1366 x 768 resolution.  The H160 has 2GB of RAM and 64GB eMMC storage.  The H160 has a USB port and an HDMI port.  The H160 runs on Windows 8 and is based on Intel’s Z2760 CPU.  Pricing and availability is not yet known.
