Seesmic Desktop 2 has recently been announced by Seesmic founder Loic Le Meur. Seesmic was previously known to track all-things-Twitter in real-time, but this new version goes beyond the micro-blogging service.

Loic said that they “want to be the first platform for platforms.” Seesmic runs on Microsoft Silverlight and has a plugin architecture that lets you install Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, Foursquare, MySpace, Google Reader, Salesforce Chatter, eBay, Last.fm, Groupon, Flickr, and Klout support. There is a bevy of options for Seesmic Desktop 2.

“The inspiration to build SD2 came from the understanding that our users desired support of many different social services, more than just Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn,” said Le Meur. You can customize the desktop software any way you want. “If you don’t like Foursquare, you can filter out Foursquare.”

Seesmic also has a plugin Marketplace where you can search and download plugins. Eventually Seesmic Desktop will have paid plugins, but all of the existing plugins are free.

Seesmic also has an SDK and even offered companies to work with Seesmic’s engineering team for building plugins. Seesmic even hired third-party development company tequilarapido to build some popular plugins.

Seesmic, the video commenting and Twitter platform company founded by Loic Le Meur has developed a new browser that will be debuted at the Real-Time Street CrunchUp event today. The Seesmic Browser looks very similar to GMail when it comes to the user interface and has support for Twitter.

At the top of the browser is a messages button to read direct messages that you have been sent. Next to that is an text field for users to update their status. And then there is a search engine next to the text field for finding tweets.

Although the Seesmic Browser currently only supports Twitter, Facebook integration will be added to the browser soon. Different columns in the browser represents different functions. For example, one column may have direct messages, another column will have replies sent, and another column will have the ability to message or follow/unfollow a user.
