Mark Zuckerberg has been constantly profiled by the media for the past 8 years, but The New York Times recently decided to focus on his new bride, Priscilla Chan. Chan and Zuckerberg have been dating for the past 9 years. Below are some interesting notes from the New York Times article.

- Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day performed at the couple’s wedding.
- Chan’s wedding dress costed $4,700 and it was designed by Claire Pettibone. Pettibone’s said that the dress was not a top seller, but was respectable.
- Chan recently graduated from University of California San Francisco where she wanted to become a pediatrician.
- She is close friends with Wall Street Journal reporter Jessica Vascellaro and her fiance, Facebook product manager Sam Lessin. She is also close to senior Facebook employees Jessica Sitting and Aaron Sittig along with Brittany Morin (wife of Path founder Dave Morin).
- Chan was valedictorian at Quincy High School where she played tennis and won a science challenge. She gave a graduation speech there based on the Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.”
- When Chan was finishing up at Harvard and Mark Zuckerberg moved to California, they split up for a while. Zuckerberg started seeing an undergraduate at the University of California Berkeley, but Chan and Zuckerberg reunited in 2007 after she was hired as a fourth and fifth grade science teacher at the Harker School in San Jose. However she negotiated that if they were to get back together, they must consider marriage. Mark was reluctant because he believe that his youthful image was an asset to the company.
- Zuckerberg was also required to give at least 100 minutes of private time with Chan and take her on at least one date per week. The couple also agreed to vacation for two weeks every year overseas. Together they have been to Mumbai, Dubai, and China.
- Chan is also known for not wanting to spend any of Mark’s money. One time she was shopping with Mark’s sister Randi Zuckerberg and she took an interest in a $600 pair of shoes. However she did not buy them even though Randi said “you can afford them.” Chan replied “It’s not my money.”

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) and banks that include Morgan Stanley are being sued by the shareholders that claimed the defendants weakened growth forecasts ahead of the $16 billion IPO. The defendants including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg are being accused of concealing “a severe and pronounced reduction” in revenue growth forecasts, which resulted from increased use of its app through mobile devices. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan. In this case, shareholders are saying that research analysts at several underwriters lowered business forecasts for Facebook during the IPO process, but the changes were “selectively disclosed by defendants to certain preferred investors” instead of to the public.

“The value of Facebook common stock has declined substantially and plaintiffs and the class have sustained damages as a result,” is quoted from the complaint. Facebook shares had dropped 18.4% from the $38 IPO price in the first three days of trading, which reduced the value of stock sold in the IPO by over $2.9 billion. The company’s market cap fell from $108 billion to less than $70 billion since then.

Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has married his longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan. Zuckerberg and Chan have been dating since they were attending Harvard University together around the same time TheFacebook.com was being created. the day before when the company had an IPO.

The wedding took place in a private ceremony at Zuckerberg’s home in Palo Alto. Zuckerberg had designed Chan’s wedding ring himself and it was a “very simple ruby.”

Zuckerberg surprised the guests into thinking that they were coming for Chan’s medical school graduation party, but they were attending a wedding instead.

Facebook will stop taking orders for their IPO tomorrow, which is two days ahead of schedule. Facebook will likely stop taking orders for the IPO after the U.S. markets close on May 15th said a source with Bloomberg. Facebook is offering 337.4 million shares at $28 to $35 per share.

“They’re swamped with the orders that are in,” stated Merriman Holdings CEO Jon Merriman. “They just need time to determine the price. They can send the message — the books are closing, send in your orders now.”

Based on the $96 billion valuation that Facebook is seeking, they would be the most valuable company in history to go public in the U.S. based on market capitalization. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is celebrating his 28th birthday today during the final leg of an investor roadshow to build demand for the IPO.

When Mark Zuckerberg decided that he wanted to buy Instagram, he had Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom come to his $7 million Palo Alto home to negotiate. Lawyers and bankers were not consulted during the deal, but they were present and were watching from afar. The New York Times wrote a riveting article today about how Facebook turned down an offer from Yahoo! and continue to grow.

“As the deal came to a close, Mark and Kevin sat outside and ate steaks and ice cream, while the lawyers all sat inside watching ‘Game of Thrones,’ ” said a person that was present at the house in an interview with The New York Times. The “two 20-somethings were alone hammering out the terms of the deal.” The Instagram deal represents how much control Zuckerberg has retained during Facebook’s growth over the last 8 years.

Wedbush Securities Michael Pachter was interviewed by Bloomberg West today about his thoughts on Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg. Pachter criticized Zuckerberg for not showing investors respect by wearing a hoodie during a roadshow. Pachter also said that he does not think Zuckerberg would be fit for running a major company and answering to shareholders.

“Mark and his signature hoodie: He’s actually showing investors he doesn’t care that much; he’s going to be him,” said Pachter in the interview. “I think that’s a mark of immaturity. I think that he has to realize he’s bringing investors in as a new constituency right now, and I think he’s got to show them the respect that they deserve because he’s asking them for their money.”

I believe Pachter is simply judging a book by its cover. Zuckerberg has already disrupted the world and just because he is not catering his wardrobe to New York fat cats, it does not mean that he is not being professional. Mark is being himself — if this wardrobe makes him more comfortable during meetings, so be it.

Paul Ceglia filed a lawsuit against Facebook in July 2010 claiming that he owned 84% of the social network. After almost two years of going back-and-forth in court, Ceglia has been ordered to pay Facebook’s lawyers another $16,851 bringing his total sanctions to $97,617.70. He was previously ordered to pay Facebook’s lawyers $75,766.70 and $5,000 to the court. Ceglia has two weeks to pay the sanctions or show U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie Foschio why he cannot pay by showing bank accounts, tax returns, and other financial documents. His failure to comply may also result in the lawsuit’s dismissal, which is what Facebook is hoping for.

This past March, Facebook released 200 e-mails from Harvard’s servers showing why the lawsuit from Ceglia was fraudulent. Four months ago Facebook uncovered at least 4 e-mail accounts belonging to Ceglia that Facebook claimed he concealed from the court. This was right after Foschio ordered Ceglia to pay the $75,766.70 fine in legal fees. The judge said that the charge was justified because Facebook had to hire forensic experts. However the judge denied Facebook’s request for an order that would prevent Ceglia from filing additional motions in the case until the fines were paid.

Ceglia claimed that he hired Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on a work-for-hire contract eight years ago. Facebook did acknowledge the Zuckerberg was hired to work on Ceglia’s project called StreetFax on April 28, 2003 while Zuckerberg was a freshman at Harvard. Ceglia said that the contract also included $1,000 in initial funding for Facebook and he said he was entitled to over half of Facebook. Forensic experts had determined that the ink on the document is less than two years old.

During a dinner conversation between Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his girlfriend Priscilla Chan, he came up with the idea of allowing people to note whether they are an organ donor on their Timeline. Right now there is a critical shortage of organs for patients that are in need of life-saving transplants. Zuckerberg’s friendship with the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs inspired him to integrate this feature into Facebook. Jobs’ life was extended several years after a liver transplant.
“Facebook is really about communicating and telling stories… We think that people can really help spread awareness of organ donation and that they want to participate in this to their friends. And that can be a big part of helping solve the crisis that’s out there,” stated Zuckerberg in an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts.

Users in the UK and in the US will be able to add that they are organ donors starting today on their Timelines. If they are not organ donors, they can find links to official organ donation registries and enroll.

There are over 112,000 Americans that are awaiting organs and 18 people die every day from the lack of organs according to Donate Life America.

Chan is going to be a pediatrician “so our dinner conversations are often about Facebook and the kids that she’s meeting,” said Zuckerberg. In the interview, Zuckerberg also shared a story that Chan told him. There was one patient that Chan was working with in the pediatric unit. The child’s skin was turning blue because he wasn’t getting the oxygen he needed. The patient needed a heart transplant and he got it. Shortly after, he was back to playing sports again.

To add that you are an organ donor, here is how you set it up:

1. Click Life Event at the top of the Timeline.
2. Select the Health & Wellness section.
3. Select that you are an organ donor.
4. Select the audience (Friends or Public) and hit “Save”
