The Former Microsoft Courier Team Has Launched A Company Called FiftyThree

This past January, a new startup launched called FiftyThree that is running out of New York. FiftyThree is a five-man operation and their first product is called Paper. Paper is a drawing app for the iPad that has brushes, writing tools, etc. The app allows you to keep digital sketchbooks and create paintings. The basic app is free and there are in-app purchases for $1.99 each. The team working on Paper also worked on the Microsoft Courier tablet before that project was scrapped. The team include Andrew Allen (filmmaker), Jon Harris (Designer), Julian Walker (Developer), John Ikeda (Hardware), and Georg Petschnigg (CEO). [The Verge]
Details About The Microsoft Courier

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is working on a digital journal product called the Courier. The Courier is under an inch thick, weighs a little bit more than one pound, and isn’t bigger than a 5×7 photo when the device is closed. The Courier will be built on the Tegra 2 and uses the same operating system as the Zune HD and Windows Mobile 7 Series. According to Engadget the interface is rumored to have a pen and is centered around drawing and writing. There may even be a built in camera within the Courier. Microsoft Developing A Tablet Called The Courier

Microsoft Corporation is working on a new tablet booklet project called the Courier according to Gizmodo. The Apple tablet is a rumor, but Gizmodo insists that the Courier is very real.
The booklet has a dual 7 inch screen and is multitouch. The booklet is intended for writing and drawing with a stylus. The booklet is connected together through a hinge and has wireless signal and battery life indicators. The booklet has a camera on the back of the device.
J Allard, the Chief Experience Officer and Chief Technology Officer of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft Corporation is spearheading the project. Allard is also the man behind the Microsoft Zune and the Xbox consoles.
