Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Samsung Electronics has announced that the Surface table called the SUR40 is now available for pre-order in over 23 countries. The SUR40 is slimmer than the original Microsoft Surface. The SUR40 has an Athlon X2 processor and a 40-inch multi-touch display.

Samsung was able to trim part of the body of the original Surface by using the Microsoft PixelSense technology. The PixelSense gives the SUR40 an LCD panel that “sees” the objects, movements, and touch gestures. You can pre-order a SUR40 for $8,400. Unfortunately there is no release date as of yet for the SUR40.

Aldebaran Robotics designs robots called Nao. Nao is a humanoid robot that responds to sound and has solid artificial intelligence going for it. Now Nao has gotten its hands on a Microsoft Surface and has learned how to interact with the device. The robot zoomed in and move around stacks of photos. The best part I like about this video is the opening when the robot first responds to the lady’s request.

As many of you are aware, Microsoft has been manufacturing a PC that is the size of a table. Currently it is being used at several casinos and has multitouch capabilities. However the price tag of the Microsoft Surface is $12,000. Maximum PC did not like the idea of spending that much so they put together a table PC of their own.

Maximum PC used LEDs, a PS3 Eye camera, a projector, and acrylic to build this set-up. They also used a wood cabinet and an old PC that they had lying around. Total cost: $350. The whole project took about 2 weeks. Check out the video demo below:
