REPORT: Low Adoption Numbers For Windows 8 Raising Concern At Microsoft

If Microsoft wanted Windows 8 to just blast off right out the gate, these numbers should be a bit alarming.  They are seeing low adoption rates for Windows 8.  According to research and analytics company Net Applications, they are finding that around 0.33% of all Windows-based computers were running on Windows 8 in September.  Around 1.64% of Wind0ws-based computers were running on Windows 7 the month before it was released in 2009.  Granted people were frustrated with Windows Vista at that time so they wanted to upgrade right away, but the same level of excited with Windows 8 does not seem to be there.  [ComputerWorld]

Microsoft Asks Users To Disable Windows Gadgets Out Of Security Vulnerability Fears

Microsoft is asking Windows Vista and Windows 7 users to disable the Sidebar and Gadget features built into the operating system.  Desktop Gadgets were first added in Windows Vista.  The mini-app gadgets are based on HTML and obtain information from web feeds.

Swype Raises More Funding and Goes for More of the Market

Swype, provider of a magical touchscreen keyboard, is poised on the edge of a possible market domination and has collected a new $2.5 million from investors. Swype is on about half of Android phones currently shipping, and AllThingsD reports that CEO Mike McSherry said, “I think you will continue to see us getting deployed and moving toward our goal of being the default keyboard on any screen.”

Microsoft Hit $6.63 Billion In Profit Of Q2


Microsoft Corporation recently announced their second quarter earnings. They posted a $6.63 billion profit on revenues of $19.95 billion. This is very comparable to their earnings from last year. The company sold about 300 million licenses of Windows 7 and they saw a strong increase in their entertainment division.
