The CEO of Nintendo Co. Ltd. has announced that the year-end sales of the Wii U games console are steady, but they are not as strong as when the original Wii was launched. “At the end of the Christmas season, it wasn’t as though stores in the U.S. had no Wii U left in stock, as it was when Wii was first sold in that popular boom. But sales are not bad, and I feel it’s selling steadily,” stated Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in an interview.
Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo TVii will be launching on December 20th. The Nintendo TVii is a service that will complement the Wii U. The Nintendo TVii was first introduced back in September and they plan to integrate streaming services, your cable box, and your DVR into a cross-searchable application.
Nintendo has dropped the price of the Wii console to $129.99 in order to drive sales for the holiday season. The new retail price includes a black console with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on one disc. It also includes a black Wii remote and Nunchuk remote. This pack replaces the current $149 version which includes the New Super Mario Bros.
The lower cost Wii will be available starting October 28th on Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, and Gamestop.
Nintendo fans can also look forward to the Nintendo Wii U arriving on November 18th.
“Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console,” stated Nintendo of America EVP of Sales and Marketing Scott Moffitt. “A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season.”

Nintendo Co. Ltd. said that they plan on launching a Wii console successor in 2012 as they recently reported a slump in profits. Nintendo is expecting that profits will be remaining flat in the current financial year. Nintendo plans on demonstrating the Wii replacement at the E3 game show on June 7 in Los Angeles, California.

Nintendo is pulling in some solid sales numbers. On top of recently announcing the sales of 47 million DS devices, the company has also announced 34 million Wii sales. Of the 34 million, 21 million were sold in the last 3 years. In November, Nintendo sold 2.7 million Wii and DS systems. [VGChartz]
Nintendo has sold 1.5 million Wii and DS video game systems during Black Friday week. Of this number, about 600,000 Wii consoles were sold and 900,000 DS units were sold between November 21st and the 27th. The Wii bundle costs $199 with a Wii Remote Plus and 2 games. The DSi XL sold with 3 games for $179. The DSi with only one game sold for $149. Nintendo of America president said that the Nintendo sold around 9,000 systems every hour during Thanksgiving week. After being downloaded 36 million times on the iPhone and Android, Angry Birds is now coming to gaming consoles. Rovio developers are working on Angry Birds for the Microsft Xbox 360, Sony PS3, and the Nintendo Wii. Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka did not give any specifics on when Angry Birds will be available for download on gaming consoles. [BBC]
