Nokia Releases A Teaser For N9 Mobile Device [VIDEO]


The MeeGo (or Symbian) powered Nokia N9 has appeared in this teaser ad that is spreading on the Internet. It is likely that the N9 will be available next month. Sources have both Intel and Qualcomm supplying the processor with varying display resolutions. It is also rumored that the main camera has a 12 megapixel camera. Check out the teaser below:

Nokia Cutting 4,000 Jobs and Moving 3,000 Jobs To Accenture


Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) announced this morning that they plan to align their workforce and will be consolidating some operations. As a result, there will be a massive layoff. Nokia will be cutting about 4,000 employees by the end of 2012. Most of these job cuts will take place in Finland, Denmark, and the U.K. Nokia will also be transferring all of their Symbian software jobs and 3,000 employees to Accenture Plc (NYSE:ACN).

Nokia Releases Ovi Maps 3D Beta


Nokia has launched a beta version of Ovi Maps 3D. Ovi Maps now has the ability to display cities in a 3D view that you can zoom into and out of. You can activate the 3D view at maps.ovi.com. To make these maps possible, Nokia had partnered with 3D mapping solutions company C3. Nokia’s Ovi Maps 3D is only available in a limited number of cities.

U.S. ITC Staff Recommends HTC and Nokia Not Be Liable For Infringing


The U.S. International Trade Commission said that HTC and Nokia should not be found liable for infringing on Apple’s patents. Staff lawyer Erin Joffre disclosed their position on the matter during the ITC trial in Washington earlier this week. Apple is seeking that HTC mobile phones running on the Google Android operating system should be banned along with some of Nokia’s devices.

Nokia Releasing Symbian-Powered Astound Phone In The U.S.


Nokia has announced today that they are introducing the Astound phone in the United States. The Astound is a lower end smartphone that runs on the Symbian operating system. The device has a 620 megahertz processor and 300 megabytes of memory.

Stephen Elop: “We’re Right Now, Today, Having People Work On The First Windows Phone Devices From Nokia.”


Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) CEO Stephen Elop has revealed some interesting information through an interview with Reuters. “We’re right now, today, having people work on the first Windows Phone devices from Nokia. That work is already under way. If this was an acquisition scenario, that wouldn’t be possible,” stated Elop.

Nokia E7 Available For Pre-Order For U.S. Customers


The Nokia E7 is available for pre-order for $679 on Nokia.com and is expected to ship at the beginning of April. Since late last year, the phone was available on Amazon.com and the price has not dropped. The Nokia E7 has a 4″ AMOLED touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, Quickoffice, e-mail support, maps with free GPS navigation, 8-megapixel camera with HD video, HDMI cable in the box, and fully integrated social network. Nokia’s Switch To Windows Phone OS Will Take About 2 Years


Nokia filed a form 20-F on March 11 with the SEC that confirms that they have not finalized the deal with Microsoft. Microsoft and Nokia have “entered into a nonbinding term sheet… (while) the planned partnership with Microsoft remains subject to negotiation and execution of definitive agreements by the parties.”

Microsoft Believed To Be Offering Nokia $1 Billion For 5 Year Deal


Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is going to pay Nokia $1 billion to develop devices based on the Windows Phone 7 operating system. Nokia will be paying Microsoft a royalty for each license of the Windows Phone operating system they use. Nokia will be saving money from their own R&D by paying Microsoft to do the mobile software development work instead.

Microsoft To Help Nokia Lower Their Prices On Smartphones


Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said that one of the talking points he made with Microsoft about their strategic points is to offer competitive prices for smartphones. So far Microsoft has had tight hardware requirements for handsets using their software, which is causing their prices to be higher. Microsoft is now planning to open their mobile platform to other chipset suppliers and not just Qualcomm anymore. [Reuters]
