Intellectual Ventures Suing 13 Companies for Patent Infringement

Intellectual Ventures is suing a group of companies for patent infringement. Companies being sued include Acer, Adata Technology, Asustek Computer, Best Buy, Dell, Elpida Memory, Hewlett Packard, Hynix Semiconductor, Kingston Technology, Logitech International, Pantech and Wal-Mart. According to TechCrunch, the patents deal with memory technology and methods.
California Institute Of Technology Suing Big Phone Companies Over Sensor Patents

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is suing LG, Nokia, Pantech, Toshiba, STMicroelectronics, Seti Co., and Siliconfile Technologies Inc. over 9 sensor technology patents. Caltech filed a complain on November 24th in Los Angeles federal court. Caltech is seeking unspecific damages for willful infringement. Last year Caltech sued six digital camera companies which include Canon and Nikon over pixel sensors. Caltech did research and filed for these patents as part of a NASA project. The case is currently filed as California Institute of Technology v. STMicroelectronics, 10-9099, U.S. District Court, Central District of California (Los Angeles.) [BusinessWeek]
AT&T and Pantech Announce The Matrix Pro

AT&T and Pantech Wireless today has announced the introduction of the Pantech Matrix Pro. The Matrix Pro will be available starting February 24 on AT&T. The phone will has a dual-sliding QWERTY keyboard and a sliding dialpad interface. The Matrix Pro has a new, sleek design with a larger LCD screen. The text message system will be chat style just like the iPhone and it comes with tri-band 3G support. The Matrix Pro has more memory, a faster processor, an upgraded camera, and AT&T Video Share calling.
“The Matrix Pro is a fantastic-looking device and a significant evolution in this dual-sliding family of phones,” stated Michael Woodward, VP of Smart Devices for AT&T Mobility. “We’ve seen the Matrix become a hit with consumers, and the Matrix Pro will appeal to anyone who wants a powerful smartphone with a great design.”
The Matrix Pro in a steel-blue metallic finish will be available at AT&T stores and online for $179.99 after a 2 year service agreement and $50 mail in rebate.
