Apple Supplier Pegatron Reports Explosion

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) supplier Pegatron has reported an explosion that happened in Shanghai over this past weekend. About 61 workers have been injured as a result. Pegatron CFO Charles Lin said that the explosion at the plant belongs to Riteng Computer Accessory Co at the Shanghai Songjiang industrial park. The building did not catch on fire, but 23 of the injured workers had to go to the hospital. Apple is investigating what happened. [Reuters]

Valens Semiconductor, which makes semiconductors for distributing HD content, has raised $14 million in funding. The investors include Pegatron, Mitsui & Co Global Investment, Amiti Ventures, Aviv Venture Capital, Genesis Partners and Magma Venture Partners. [TechCrunch]

First Batch Of iPhone 5 Devices Expected To Top 10 Million Units

Pegatron has received orders for the iPhone 5 and they are expecting the first batch to hit 10 million units. The new iPhone is expected to be announced in June or July of this year. Supposedly the 5th generation of the iPhone is expected to have near-field communications capabilities built in. Pegatron is currently busy building iPhones with CDMA support for Verizon.
