Today Apple SVP of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller announced that the company is launching a new application called iBooks 2. Schiller described iBooks 2 as a “new textbook experience for the iPad.” When you open the app, textbooks appear on the shelf. When you open a textbook, it will appear in the full screen and it can be paired with embedded video content. Using multitouch, you can navigate the textbook pages and manipulate 3-D models.

Textbooks in iBooks 2 also support note-taking, highlighting, and Q&A features at the end of each chapter. As you take notes and highlights, flash cards are created. Each textbook will have free samples, but the full versions will cost about $14.99 or less. Apple’s current textbook partners include Pearson, McGraw-Hill, and Houghton Mifflin. These three companies account for 90% of all textbooks.

A large number of Apple products are being used by schools. About 1.5 million iPads are currently being used by educational institutions and schools. Around 1,000 universities and colleges participate on iTunes U, which has free lectures, videos, books, and podcasts. There is over 500,000 pieces of educational audio and video material on iTunes U, which have been downloaded over 700 million times.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sent out a press release that discusses what they plan to announce at the annual WWDC event. It is unlikely that Apple will release a new iPhone in June as the press release indicates that there will be a focus on the changes in iOS and the Mac OS.

“At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS,” stated Apple marketing head Phil Schiller. It is likely that a delayed iPhone 5 announcement could mean that we may see an LTE version released around the same time. With so much speculation and hype about the new iPhone coming out in June, Apple is also letting investors know what to expect as well.

Molinker Inc. was one of those Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone application developers that produced a bunch of limited functionality apps and stuck them in the store. They made over 1,000 apps and got caught scamming the application review system. All thousand of their applications were taken down from the Apple App Store too.

The phony reviews were caught by a friend of the person that runs the Iphoneography blog. He or she noticed that about 90% of the reviews on Molinker applications were made by the same group of people. Most of those people had very bad grammar indicating that the fake reviews were outsourced to people in overseas firms. MobileCrunch points out that the application NightCam Pro had about 42 out of 44 5-star reviews were fake.

iPhoneography and the friend of the blog that caught the phony reviews sent a 5 paragraph e-mail to Apple VP Phil Schiller.

Molinker was the second largest (in terms of app quantity) App development company to get banned from the App Store. The first was Khalid Shaikh’s Perfect Acumen development company.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has hired Michael Tchao as the VP of Product Marketing. Tchao was one of the original developers of the Apple Newton PDA. Tchao joined Apple this past Monday as the VP of product marketing. Tchao will be reporting to Apple SVP Phil Schiller. Tchao joins Apple after leaving about 15 years.

Tchao’s most recent job was at the Nike Techlab as the general manager. Nike Techlab designs armbands and sneakers for the iPod. It is uncertain what Tchao will be working on specifically at Apple. Tchao had convinced former Apple CEO John Sculley to make the Newton a consumer device. After that device failed to take off, Tchao parted ways with the company. “He’s got the scars and the great ideas,” stated a former Apple employee in an interview with The New York Times.

This may indicate that Apple is making a tablet computer after all. An Apple tablet with App Store download capabilities would be awesome.
