Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) bought out Pittsburgh Pattern Recognition, also known as PittPatt. PittPatt develops technology that recognizes faces in images and videos. The technology started being developed at the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute in the 1990s. PittPatt was formed in 2004.
