Apple Offered $16 Million For iPad Trademark, But Proview Wants $400 Million
Apple Inc. has entered serious negotiations with Proview, a company that currently has the Chinese iPad trademark. Apple representatives have reportedly offered Proview $16 million, but they are holding out for $400 million. Proview and Apple have been battling in court since 2010, but the case came up against in February after Apple contested a decision that Proview was the legal holder of the “iPad” trademark in China. Proview needs $400 million to appease their creditors, eight of them being Chinese banks.

Shanghai Court Rejects Proview’s Injunction Of iPad
A court in Shanghai has reject Proview’s efforts to halt the sames of the Apple iPad in the city amidst a trademark dispute, pending a decision in another court. The Pudong District People’s Court wrote in a statement today that they have rejected a request by the mainland China arm of Proview International Holdings for a temporary injunction that would halt the sales of the iPad in Shanghai. The injunction is part of a trademark dispute over the iPad name, which Proview has been using on products since 1998. Apple claims that they have the license for the name. [WSJ]
Proview Threatening To Sue Apple Over iPad Trademark
Proview International Holdings Limited (HKG:0334) is threatening to sue Apple over trademark infringement for the term I-Pad. “We will sue them for damages in China and in the US,” stated Proview chairman Yang Rongshan.
