Publicis Groupe is one of the top four largest advertising and communications companies with over 48,000 employees.  Publicis has acquired <a href="http://www.bigfuel.com/">Big Fuel</a>, a social media agency that handles campaign management for companies such as GM, AOL, T-Mobile, and Fisher-Price.<br />

Publicis acquired 51% of Big Fuel with an option to increase the ownership to 100% from 2014.  Big Fuel will be integrated into Publicis&#8217; VivaKi team and will be the company&#8217;s &#8220;social media center.&#8221;  Starcom MediaVest, Razorfish, Digitas, and Zenith Optimedia is also part of Publicis&#8217; VivaKi team.</p>
<p>Big Fuel is based in New York and they have a large office in Detroit, Michigan.  Big Fuel&#8217;s revenue in 2011 is expected to hit $30 million.  Below is a press release about the deal:</p>

<p>Publicis Groupe [Euronext Paris: FR0000130577] today announced that it has acquired an equity stake in Big Fuel, the New York-based social media agency. According to the terms of the agreement, Publicis Groupe immediately acquires 51% of the new agency, and has the possibility of increasing its participation to 100% from 2014. Big Fuel will be aligned under the VivaKi organization and serve as a strategic social media &#8220;center&#8221; for the VivaKi agencies Digitas, Razorfish, Starcom MediaVest Group and Zenith Optimedia, complementing their existing teams.</p>
<p>With more than 170 employees, Big Fuel is one of the only pure-play social media agencies in the industry, with all employees dedicated to providing clients with social media services including strategic, creative, distribution, management and analytics. The company has grown from 30 employees in early 2010, and its 2011 revenue is expected to reach nearly $30M, a 500% increase year-on-year. It has been named social media agency of record for some major marketers, including GM and T-Mobile. Big Fuel also works with Colgate-Palmolive, Microsoft, Clorox, Children&#8217;s Place, Gore-Tex and Philips.</p>
<p>Big Fuel is headed by Jon Bond, CEO, who assumed the role in January of 2011. Bond runs the agency in partnership with Avi Savar, founding partner and Chief Creative Officer, and Mike McGraw, managing partner and COO.  Big Fuel will report into the VivaKi organization through Laura Lang, global CEO of Digitas and member of the VivaKi Board of Directors.</p>

<b>Publicis Groupe SA is a French advertising company.&nbsp; This morning a person familiar with the transaction <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124982318328817501.html" mce_href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124982318328817501.html">told the WSJ</a> that Publicis will acquire Microsoft subsidiary Razorfish.&nbsp; Publicis is seeking ways to make additional revenue from advertising on the Internet.&nbsp; The deal is expected to be announced sometime today.</b></p>
<p>Microsoft was rumored to be in talks for selling Razorfish to WPP PLC, Omnicom Group Inc., and Dentsu in the last few weeks.&nbsp; The acquisition price is rumored to be somewhere around $500 and $600 million.&nbsp; Last week Omnicom made a $500 million bid for Razorfish according to a WSJ source.</p>
<p>Aside from the purchase price, one of the additional components of the transaction that Publicis agreed to is to buy advertising space over the next several years on Microsoft&#8217;s online properties such as Bing.</p>
<p>Microsoft has been reportedly searching for a buyer of Razorfish <a href="http://pulse2.com/2008/08/25/microsoft-in-talks-to-sell-avenue-arazorfish-to-wpp-group/" mce_href="http://pulse2.com/2008/08/25/microsoft-in-talks-to-sell-avenue-arazorfish-to-wpp-group/">over the last year</a>.&nbsp; Razorfish was the subsidiary of aQuantive, which Microsoft <a href="http://pulse2.com/2007/05/18/microsoft-acquiring-advertising-company-aquantive-inc-for-6-billion/" mce_href="http://pulse2.com/2007/05/18/microsoft-acquiring-advertising-company-aquantive-inc-for-6-billion/">bought out for $6 billion</a> in May 2007.</p>

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has found a buyer for Performics, a Chicago, Ill. subsidiary of DoubleClick.  The buyer is France-based advertising company, Publicis.  Publicis stated that they are aiming to generate 25% of all of their future advertising sales on the Internet by 2010.  The value of the transaction was undisclosed.</p>
<p>Publicis&#8217; new Internet entity where Performics will be rolled into is called VivaKi.  VivaKi is a consortium of advertising company that draws on the strengths of each other.  VivaKi includes firms such as Digitas, Starcom MediaVest, ZenithOptimedia, and Denuo with new services and tools. </p>
<p>Performics launched in 1998 and has about 200 employees. Performics has offices in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, London, Hamburg, Sydney, Singapore and Beijing. </p>
<p>“Publicis Groupe has been a leader in the advertising industry for decades, and we believe Performics’ growing business will benefit from being a part of it,” stated Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. “We look forward to working with Performics as a partner.”</p>
