Roku is an Internet TV streaming device company that has raised $8 million in funding according to a form D filed with the SEC earlier this week. The lead investor in this round is Globespan Capital Partners and Menlo Ventures. Google VP of TV and film entertainment Robert Kyncl also participated in this round.

Roku has hit over 1 billion streams on their set top box services. These streams have been made through their 1 million sales in set top boxes. In December, the average user watched about 11 hours of content through Roku. By the end of 2010, the company was streaming about 135 channels including Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Video on Demand. Roku is a Silicon Valley based company that created a TV set top box that streams digital content. With Apple recently announcing that they are going to sell its 1 millionth Apple TV, you may assume that Roku’s sales may not be doing as well as it used to. Roku is actually doing better than before because Apple brought attention to the digital TV streaming market. Roku’s size is doubling on year-over-year according to Roku CEO Anthony Wood in an interview with BusinessInsider. Google TV is not doing well as a competitor. Roku is also expecting to sell its one millionth box by the end of the year. The company revenues will be surpassing $50 million in 2010. Next year, Roku is expecting to hit $100 million in revenues. Roku Video Player Now Streams MLB.TV Videos

The Roku Video Player now has the ability to stream HD baseball videos from MLB.TV.  Roku is able to play Netflix and Amazon.com video rentals too.  The $99 Roku Video Player can play, pause, and rewind HD baseball games in 720p from the website.  The Roku Video Player can also play archived games from the previous week.  To get the HD baseball games to play, there is a one time subscription fee of $35.
