Carrier IQ is software that has been installed on about 150 million smartphones, which tracks personal information about users. Security researcher Trevor Eckhart discover the software and posted a video about it on YouTube. People were outraged by what they saw on the video and Carrier IQ was thoroughly investigated after that.

Google Android Update Alliance With Telecommunication Companies Starts To Fizzle

This past May Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced a partnership at the I/O conference that they have made a deal so that any new Android phone would receive OS updates for at least 18 months following the launch. The partnership is called the Google Update Alliance. Motorola, Samsung, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sony Ericsson are a part of the Update Alliance. Sony Ericsson is the only company that has kept up with the partnership. In fact Sony Ericsson released new versions of Android to all phones that are less than 18 months.

Samsung Sells Over 300 Million Mobile Devices In 2011

Yesterday Samsung Electronics said that their annual mobile handset sales this year has surpassed 300 million units for the first time in the company history. In 2010, Samsung sold about 280 million devices.

Samsung Launching A Tablet With Retina Display Sized Resolution [RUMOR]

According to sources with BoyGeniusReport, Samsung Electronics is launching an 11.6-inch tablet that will be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich next year. The tablet is expected to be launched at Mobile World Congress in February. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will have a 2560×1600 resolution with an 11.6-inch screen, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The tablet would have a dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU clocked at 2GHz. The Samsung tablet will have Android Beam for syncing with the Galaxy Nexus and a wireless docking mode for gaming on HDTVs. [BGR]
Apple Fails To Stop Samsung From Selling Galaxy In The U.S.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is unable to persuade a U.S. judge to block Samsung Electronics from selling Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Judge Lucy Koh said in a ruling that Samsung can continue selling their devices in the U.S. despite Apple’s request for a preliminary injunction against Samsung.

Apple Asked To Provide Design Alternatives For Samsung Tablet

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) was asked to provide design alternatives for the Samsung tablet as part of their legal battle. So what suggestions did Apple give Samsung? Apple said that Samsung’s tablet should not have a front surface that is black and should not be rectangular in shape. They also should not have rounded corners and the front surface should have substantial adornment. [The Verge]
Samsung and HTC Sued Over Carrier IQ Issues

Samsung, HTC, and Carrier IQ has been sued for violating a federal wiretapping statute. Currently there is controversy surrounding an issue about Carrier IQ using tracking software on mobile devices. The class action lawsuits have been filed in Chicago and St. Louis. The class action lawsuit is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of all U.S. residents who have had mobile devices containing Carrier IQ software.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Getting Flash and AIR Support In December

Adobe is preparing to launch Flash support for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus by the end of the year. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will run Adobe Flash Player 11.1 and Adobe AIR 3.1 next month. Samsung Galaxy Tabs Are Back For Sale In Australia

Samsung has won an appeal to start selling the Galaxy Tabs again in Australia. The court in Australia overturned their injunction in October against the Tabs for violating Apple’s touchscreen technology patents. Samsung Launches Cortex-A15 2GHz Exynos 5250 System-On-Chip

Samsung has announced a new system-on-chip developed for mobile devices. The Exynos 5250 has two Cortex-A15 chips clocked at 2GHz. The dual-core Exynos 5250 was created using a 32nm-low power HKMG process that is expected to double the performance that is compared to a 1.5GHz dual-core system-on-chip based on the Cortex-A9. The graphics performance of the Exynos 5250 is four times compared to the Cortex-A9 based application processors. The Samsung Exynos chip will also be used on high-end tablets that will be mass produced sometime in Q2 of next year. [Sammyhub]
