Samsung has announced LTE versions of the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9 ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin. The LTE versions of the S II and the Tab 8.9 will have faster wireless data transfer capabilities with downloads speeds that are as fast as 100 Mbps. The S II LTE will have a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen and an 8 megapixel camera. The Tab 8.9 LTE is 8.6mm thin and weighs only 455 grams. The tablet and the phone have a 1.5GHz dual core processor. On Monday, Samsung is hosting an event where the Samsung Galaxy S II is supposed to be announced. However Verizon will not have that phone on their network. Samsung confirmed the news with the Wall Street Journal today. “We have a robust portfolio of devices that offer customers exciting options, including the Droid Charge by Samsung, which runs on our 4G LTE network,” said Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney. However rumors indicate that Verizon will eventually get a phone that is similar to the Galaxy S II with a different name. AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint will each get their own version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. [WSJ]
The Galaxy S II, available pretty much everywhere outside of the United States, is finally making its way stateside. TechCrunch reports that Samsung will be telling the press all about it at a New York event on August 29th.
Samsung Electronics has sold 5 million Galaxy S II smartphones in about 85 days. That makes the Samsung Galaxy S II the company’s fastest-selling handset in their history. Sales of the device have been accelerating as the Galaxy S II is becoming available on more carriers.

Pictures of the unreleased Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone have been leaked by BoyGeniusReport. The Galaxy S II has the model number SGH-I927. The Samsung Galaxy S II specs include Android 2.3.4(Gingerbread) operating system, full QWERTY sliding keyboard, and 8 megapixel rear camera.
Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S II smartphone in the U.S. next month according to Samsung’s president of mobile business and digital imageing Shin Jong-kyun. “We expect to release the Galaxy S2 in the U.S. market sometime in August,” stated Jong-kyun during a media briefing. Samsung launched the Galaxy S II in South Korea this past April. Then it was released in Japan and Europe shortly after. The Galaxy S II sold about 3 million units in under 2 months of the debut. According to a leaked screenshot by an employee at Wireless Xcessories Group, Samsung has renamed the Galaxy S II for the U.S. launch. The phone will be named the AT&T Attain, the Verizon Function, and the Sprint Within. T-Mobile is left out as they were not listed in the leaked screenshot. [MobileCrunch]
