Sony Prices PlayStation 4 At $399, Announces Original Programming Is Coming

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Sony Corporation announced that they are going to sell the PlayStation 4 (PS4) console for $399.  This means that the PlayStation 4 is $100 less than the Xbox One console.  Sony also said that they will not have any restrictions on used games or mandatory digital rights management (DRM).  The DRM announcement received the loudest applause.

The Sony Xperia M Powered By Android Jelly Bean Is Coming In Q3

The Sony Xperia M is a new low-to-mid range Android smartphone that has a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, a 4-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixel) display, Sony’s OmniBalance design, and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.  The rear-facing camera has an Exmor RS sensor and up to 4x digital zoom with 720p video recording at 30fps.  The phone is packed with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of flash memory with microSD expansion of 32GB.

Sony Corporation (6758) Plans To Raise $1.5 Billion From Bond Sale

Sony Corporation (TYO:6758) plans to raise 150 billion yen ($1.5 billion) through unsecured straight bonds for Japanese retail investors.  The company plans to use these funds to pay off maturing debts and to invest in technology.  Sony filed a report that says that the bonds have a five-year maturity rate and is priced to yield 0.8% to 1.4% growth over the period.

Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z Is Now Available Starting At $499.99

Sony Corporation has announced that the Xperia Tablet Z is now available for sale worldwide through multiple channels.  Sony officially announced the Xperia Tablet Z back in January with a 10.1-inch touchscreen (1200 x 1920 resolution), which is equal to a 224 pixel density.  The tablet also appears to support the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2.  The multitouch feature on the tablet can support up to 10 pressure points at any one time.  Another great feature is that the Tablet Z has a waterproof rating.

Billionaire Investor Dan Loeb Wants Sony Corporation (SNE) To Spin Off Entertainment Division

is a Wall Street hedge fund manager that is asking for Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) to shift their strategy around their Entertainment division.  Loeb’s Third Point fund owns around 6.5% of Sony Corporation and 60% of Sony Financial.  Loeb said that he wants to see Sony Entertainment spun out as a separate company.  Sony Entertainment controls the company’s music and movie business.

The Sony Xperia ZR Smartphone Lets You Take Full HD Videos Underwater

Sony Corporation has announced a new smartphone called the Xperia ZR.  What makes the ZR unique is that it can be submerged 5 feet underwater without any issues.  The phone has a level of water resistance at IP55 and IP58.  This is better than the Sony Xperia Z, which can be submerged into 3.3 feet of water.  Keep in mind that the ZR can only be used in “fresh water.”  This means that you should not take it with you while swimming at the beach.
