Sony Stops Making The MiniDisc
Sony Corporation has stopped making the MiniDisc after 21 years of production. The small CD cassettes were seen as a big deal when they launched in 1992 because of high capacity, durability, and small size. It also had the ability to be recorded just like a tape cassette. The MiniDisc never really took off outside of Japan where 5 million players sold in 1997. In July 2011, Sony announced that they would no longer ship portable MiniDisc players. The last MiniDiscs will be shipped in March 2013.
