Engadget.com has gotten their hands on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play phone, also known as the PlayStation phone. The phone uses a Qualcomm MSM8655 chipset, 512MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera on the back with LED flash, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, and FM receiver. Underneath the screen is a gamepad to make playing games easy. There is also four Android soft keys below the screen (back/home/menu/search). Check out the full demo in the video above.
Some photos of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play PlayStation phone have been leaked by Chinese gadget blog IT168. Some of the gadget specs include 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a Qualcomm Adreno 205 graphics processor, 4-inch 854×480 pixel display, 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 1,500 mAh battery, microSDHC support, 512MB of ROM, and 512MB of RAM. According to a Pocket-Lint source, the PlayStation phone is expected to hit the shelves in April. This way Sony will be able to demo the phone at Mobile World Congress in February. The PlayStation phone has been caught on video. The phone is code-named the Zeus Z1. The phone is powered by the Android operating system and clearly has a PlayStation icon on the screen. The PlayStation phone is expected to be announced on December 9th. [Engadget]
French gadget blog Nowhereelse has received an invitation from Sony Ericsson for a press event on December 9th. The event states that this is “the most awaited event of the past 10 years.” The invitation has the classic PlayStation button icons on it as well. A new device made by Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) might have just been outed: The PlayStation Phone. Engadget reports that the device would likely have Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) running. The Sony Marketplace will let you purchase and download games designed for the new phone platform.
