Former Apple employee Joe Moreno said that the company has an internal system called “Can We Talk?” Any employee can raise questions on almost any subject. Moreno asked the forum “Why is the Apple logo upside down on laptops when the lid is open?” on earlier models.

The Apple design group said that they studied the placement of the logo and discovered that if the Apple logo was placed in such a way that it was right side up when the lid was opened, it ended up being upside down when the lid was closed from the point of the user. The user often tried to open the laptop from the wrong end. Eventually Steve Jobs reversed his decision about the way that the Apple logo looks on laptops. Opening a laptop from the wrong end is a self-correcting problem that only lasts for a few seconds but viewing the upside down logo is a problem that lasts indefinitely.

Towards the end of the interview, Drexler said that he has sympathy for current Apple CEO Tim Cook. “The best job to have: Take over a company that’s doing poorly,” Drexler said. “Never take over a company that’s doing great.

In February 2009, I wrote an article about Eminem’s publishing company taking Universal Music Group to court and the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs was going to testify. Jobs did provide a deposition for that case and now a group of musicians is bringing a class action lawsuit against UMG. These musicians are interested in hearing Jobs’ deposition from back then, but Apple is fighting against making the deposition public claiming that it contains ”highly confidential and proprietary trade secrets.”

When Jobs made the deposition back then, the court had to shut down to hear it. The judge ordered almost everybody out of the courtroom including UMG employees. When Jobs’ deposition was played before the jury, the judge had also closed the courtroom. Many people were ordered to leave and the transcripts from the trial sessions were filed under deal.

F.B.T. Productions were the producers of many hit Eminem songs and they filed a lawsuit against Aftermath Records, a division of UMG. This lawsuit has been watched closely by the music industry ever since the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals determined that a contract between the parties should be read as treating digital music as “licenses” instead of “sales.” The two sides are going to find out how much exactly this will be worth in an upcoming trial. There are millions of dollars at stake here.

During a dinner conversation between Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his girlfriend Priscilla Chan, he came up with the idea of allowing people to note whether they are an organ donor on their Timeline. Right now there is a critical shortage of organs for patients that are in need of life-saving transplants. Zuckerberg’s friendship with the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs inspired him to integrate this feature into Facebook. Jobs’ life was extended several years after a liver transplant.

“Facebook is really about communicating and telling stories… We think that people can really help spread awareness of organ donation and that they want to participate in this to their friends. And that can be a big part of helping solve the crisis that’s out there,” stated Zuckerberg in an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts.

Users in the UK and in the US will be able to add that they are organ donors starting today on their Timelines. If they are not organ donors, they can find links to official organ donation registries and enroll.

There are over 112,000 Americans that are awaiting organs and 18 people die every day from the lack of organs according to Donate Life America.

Chan is going to be a pediatrician “so our dinner conversations are often about Facebook and the kids that she’s meeting,” said Zuckerberg. In the interview, Zuckerberg also shared a story that Chan told him. There was one patient that Chan was working with in the pediatric unit. The child’s skin was turning blue because he wasn’t getting the oxygen he needed. The patient needed a heart transplant and he got it. Shortly after, he was back to playing sports again.

To add that you are an organ donor, here is how you set it up:

1. Click Life Event at the top of the Timeline.
2. Select the Health & Wellness section.
3. Select that you are an organ donor.
4. Select the audience (Friends or Public) and hit “Save”
Schlender and Jobs at a NeXT picnic. Photo credit: Ed Kashi/VII

Veteran reporter and friend of Steve Jobs Brent Schlender has wrote one of the best articles about Steve Jobs I have read in a long time. In the article, Schlender shared interviews he had with Steve Jobs while he was working at NeXT and Pixar. This was the period between when Jobs founded Apple and was subsequently kicked out and before he returned as “interim” CEO when Apple acquired NeXT.

Schlender covered Jobs since 1985 and it turns out that he found about three dozen tapes with recorded interviews. This was a period of Jobs’ life that was one of the most important times. Below is an excerpt from the story he wrote:

“Jobs matured as a manager and a boss; learned how to make the most of partnerships; found a way to turn his native stubbornness into a productive perseverance. He became a corporate architect, coming to appreciate the scaffolding of a business just as much as the skeletons of real buildings, which always fascinated him. He mastered the art of negotiation by immersing himself in Hollywood, and learned how to successfully manage creative talent, namely the artists at Pixar. Perhaps most important, he developed an astonishing adaptability that was critical to the hit-after-hit-after-hit climb of Apple’s last decade. All this, during a time many remember as his most disappointing.”

Jobs returned to Apple in 1996 and brought the company into the powerhouse that it is today with the launch of the iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook etc. Today Apple has $98 billion in cash and investments. Steve Jobs passed away this past October after battling cancer.

Earlier this month we wrote about how Ashton Kutcher would start filming a movie about Steve Jobs. The movie was written by Matt Whiteley and Kutcher would play Jobs. The title of the movie will be called Jobs: Get Inspired. It will cover the life of Jobs between 1971 and 2000. This was about the same time period that the Pirates of Silicon Valley movie focused on. Kutcher was selected because he had a resemblance to a young Steve Jobs. Filming will start next month and they have plans for a Q4 release. Sony Pictures grabbed the movie rights for Steve Jobs’ life based on the biography by Walter Isaacson. That movie is not expected to be released until a year or two from now.

Philippe Starck is a famous French designer that created a design company focusing on inflatable objects. He became art director of the firm along with Pierre Cardin in 1969. Some of his recent projects included an optical mouse for Microsoft, several yachts, and the Virgin Galactic “spaceport” in New Mexico. In an interview with France Info Radio, Starck said that he and Apple “have a big project together that will be out in eight months.” This project would be “revolutionary.” Apple denied that they are working with Starck in a statement to AllThingsD. So what could it be if it is not an Apple iTV?

Before Apple CEO Steve Jobs passed away, he worked with Starck on a yacht. This is most likely the “big project” that he may have been talking about. The yacht is being built by Feadship and is likely to feature a sleek design with 40 foot long glass walls. Starck refused to give any more details because of “culte du secret religieux.” Steve Jobs’ involvement in having a yacht being built is confirmed in his biography. In Steve Jobs’ biography, it was written that Jobs was involved in the design of a 245-foot yacht being built. The systems in the yacht would be able to be controlled with an iPad or a similar device on top of that.

This does not appear to be directly tied to Apple the company, but more of a personal project by Steve Jobs started in 2009.

Foxconn, the company that builds iPods, iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks, will soon operate on “Steve Jobs Avenue” in the city of Jundiaí, which is in southeast Brazil. The idea for naming the street after Steve Jobs was presented last October, one day after he passed away and it was approved by Jundiaí’s city council on March 27. The street was previously named after former Jundiaí mayor Miguel Moubadda Haddad.

The avenue connects Jundiaí to São Paulo. Foxconn already produces iPhones in Jundiaí. They will soon start making iPads there too. Interestingly Apple products tend to cost 28% more in Brazil compared to any other country in the world. This is because Brazil requires a high tax load and import tariffs. Whenever Apple products are imported, the importer is charged transaction taxes.
