New Moon (aka The Twilight Saga: New Moon or Twilight 2) is a film that will be released this Friday as a romantic fantasy film. Summit Entertainment is the production company behind the movie. New Moon will be starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner. The budget of the movie is about $50-$70 million, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they surpass that number in revenues in the opening weekend.
Just out of curiosity I wanted to find out how well the trailer was doing on YouTube and I was astonished. I searched for New Moon trailer on YouTube and sorted the results by View Count. Then I added up all views that are related to New Moon whether it is a trailer or a fan made video. The total in the first two pages were over 100 million views.
That is a massive fan base for the movie. Considering that this count is the first two pages of YouTube, I can’t even imagine the total count of all New Moon videos from other sources too.
Zazzle is an online retail company where users can customize apparel, mugs, postage, cards, etc. Zazzle is now being sued by Summit Entertainment, the company behind the licensing rights for the Twilight series. A lot of tweens have used Zazzle to make Twilight gear and this clearly did not make Summit happy whatsoever. This is why Summit is suing Zazzle.
While Zazzle themselves aren’t the ones that decide the design, they still are the ones that customize the goods. Summit claimed trademark violation and defamation.
In November 2008 Zazzle was sent a cease-and-desist letter, but the company continued to sell the items. Summit said that this is considered “willful” infringement. Summit is seeking punitive damages, injunction, and accounting damages.
Twilight the movie based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer has achieved quite a substantial milestone. The Twilight movie, created by Summit Entertainment announced today that the DVD release of the movie sold 3 million units on the first day of release. The DVD was released this past Monday and an event centered around it. The event was called “TWILIGHT at midnight.” This allowed retail companies to stay open late and fans were able to line up in numbers to purchase the DVD.
The stars of the movie appeared at different locations in promotion of the movie going on sale. Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) appeared in Salt Lake City, Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) appeared in Los Angeles, Edi Gathegi (Laurent) appeared in New York, and Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) appeared in Chicago.
Twilight beat the record of the top five best first day DVD releases in the past two years. This record beat Pirates of the Caribbean, At World’s End, The Dark Knight, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers.
Twilight arrived in theaters on November 21, 2008 and made $69.6 million in the first weekend domestically and $380 million worldwide.
The last time I wrote about Twilight it was because Stephenie Meyer decided to postpone the 5th book in the series since it leaked on the Internet. The update since then is that Meyer will make Midnight Sun her next project and has not finished writing it yet. She definetely plans on still publishing it. Once Breaking Dawn is released, Meyer will have more time to finish Midnight Sun.
