Apple was accused of copying the design of the 1940s Swiss Railway Station Clock from the Swiss Federal Railways last month. Apple started using the same clock design in iOS 6 for the Clock app. Apple has now agreed to license the design from Swiss Federal Railways. Apple licensed the design for “use on devices like iPad and iPhone.” It is unknown how much Apple is paying the Swiss Federal Railways for the design. The original design of the Swiss Railway Clock was by engineer and designer Hans Hilfiker.

The Swiss Federal Railway service (known as Schweizerische Bundesbahnen) is accusing Apple of using their iconic clock as the design for the Clock app on the iPad without permission. This was reported by the Swiss newspaper Blick. The clock was originally designed by Hans Hilfiker and it has become an icon of the Swiss railway and of Switzerland itself. The trademark and copyright of the clock is owned by the Swiss Federal Railways service.
