LivingSocial Raises $400 Million

Less than four months ago LivingSocial raised $175 million from Amazon.com and now they have raised an additional $400 million. The investors in this round include Amazon.com, Lightspeed Venture Partners, T. Rowe Price, and Institutional Venture Partners (IVP). This puts LivingSocial at a $3 billion valuation.

LivingSocial Raises An Astonishing $183 Million Investment From Amazon.com and Lightspeed

When I first wrote about LivingSocial in July 2008, they had raised about $5 million in funding. A couple months later I interviewed their co-founder and CEO Tim O’Shaughnessy about their new Publisher tool for their Facebook applications. Two years later, they have raised an astonishing $183 million from Amazon.com and Lightspeed to expand their business at a faster rate. Of the investment, Amazon.com plugged in $175 million and Lightspeed invested $8 million. LivingSocial is one of Groupon’s biggest competitors and they are making close to about $1 million per day. The company said that they are on track to bringing in about $500 million in revenues next year. The full press release is below:
Groupon Will Let Vendors Set Up Free Microsites Called Groupon Stores

Group coupon website Groupon is currently negotiating a deal with Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG). Google is currently offering Groupon about $6 billion as the acquisition price. Some people believe that this is too high of a number for Google to be paying. Others think that it is too little.

LivingSocial Raises $14 Million Series C, Challenging Groupon

This morning I went on YouTube.com and saw a huge banner at the top that features LivingSocial.com’s Daily Deal in the city of Detroit. If you go to LivingSocial.com right now, it will show you how their daily deals work — for me the website says “We’re coming soon to Ann Arbor.” I actually had no idea that LivingSocial was planning to compete with Groupon.com. And they have raised $14 million in Series C to do so.
