The first Samsung Tizen smartphone is launching in Japan this March

Samsung Electronics has plans to launch a Tizen smartphone in Japan this March. It is believed that they will be partnering with NTT DoCoMo to launch the first Tizen smartphone. Tizen is an open-source operating system. Before the release date, a smartphone powered by Tizen will be showcased at Mobile World Congress next month.

Samsung Is Not Releasing A Tizen Smartphone Until Next Year

Samsung Electronics said that they will not be releasing their first Tizen powered smartphone until 2014.  This means that Samsung is several months behind schedule. Tizen is a mobile operating system that was created through a partnership between Samsung and Intel as an alternative to Android.

A Tizen-Based Samsung Phone Will Start Selling In 2013

Samsung Electronics will soon start building phones that are based on the open source mobile operating system known as Tizen.  Tizen is supported by Samsung, DoCoMo, Vodafone, and a few other companies according to sources with Daily Yomiuri.  Most likely Samsung will end up showcasing the Tizen-based phone during Mobile World Congress in February.  Samsung will still be committed to Android and the company will be releasing more Windows Phone devices this year.

Tizen Developer Smartphone Gets A Video Demo


Tizen is a free and open source mobile operating system. Tizen is based on the Linux operating system backed by the Linux Foundation and is represented by the Tizen Association. The Tizen conference launched today and some Tizen hardware was handed out to developers. The device has a 1.2 GHz Dual Core ARM based processor, 720p HD display, 4.3-inch display, touchscreen display, front and rear cameras, and micro USB connector. Check out the video demo below:
