Google+ has taken over the tech news world! Here’s a list of all the recent updates, including the iPhone app, an invite scam, Tom from Myspace’s opinion, Zuckerberg’s stake, benefits for journalists, formatting tips and more.

The Google+ iPhone app is on its way. According to Googler Erica Joy’s Google+ update, the app has been submitted and is awaiting approval.

Mashable‘s list of cons for Google+ includes: lack of search, doesn’t work with Google Apps.

Hackers are running a Google+ invite scam that sends unsuspecting users to ads for erectile dysfunction products. According to HuffPo, the emails look very similar to real Google+ invites.

Tom from Myspace thinks Google+ is great! He posted on his own Google+ account that he thinks the service is the answer to our current mindset, the idea that “everything gets better when it’s social.” Tom Anderson’s public Google+ feed is almost entirely about his use of the service.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is the most-followed person on Google+, with more followers than the Google execs responsible for creating Google+. TechCrunch speculates that “the more media coverage someone receives related to Google+, the more followers they get.”

The Committee to Protect Journalists has spoken out in support of Google+ as a way to keep journalists and activists safer. As Gizmodo notes, the service offers users more control than other social networks: everything is encrypted in https, users control their circles completely, users don’t have to list their real names, and more.

Lifehacker reports that Google+ users can format their posts to *bold* writing, -strikethrough- writing or _italicize_ writing.

Google+ is integrated with Picasa in a way that gives users unlimited photo and video storage. ReadWriteWeb reports that Google+ storage doesn’t count toward Picasa storage limits unless users upload videos more than 15 minutes long.

MySpace Co-Founder Tom Anderson Makes Strategic Investment in AuctionPoint

Innovative Online Auction Platform for Commercial Real Estate Welcomes Social Media Trailblazer and “First Friend” of MySpace To Its Board of Advisors
AuctionPoint’s business model of bringing sophisticated technology to an otherwise traditional industry is a game changer

Marina Del Rey, CA (PRWEB) May 25, 2010 — AuctionPoint, an innovative online auction platform for commercial real estate, announced today that it has received a strategic investment from Tom Anderson, social media pioneer and co-founder of MySpace. Anderson also joins AuctionPoint’s Board of Advisors.

In this new advisory role, Anderson will provide strategic counsel on the company’s corporate vision and growth strategy, as well as provide input on technological developments. The investment partnership will help accelerate AuctionPoint’s nationwide expansion. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.

“I believe AuctionPoint’s business model of bringing sophisticated technology to an otherwise traditional industry is a game changer,” said Anderson. “AuctionPoint is shaping how commercial real estate deals get done, and industry players are realizing that these new ways of doing business are essential to jumpstart the marketplace.”

“Tom’s expertise and successful background in social media and viral marketing will be instrumental in guiding AuctionPoint’s business plan, helping us identify opportunities to advance the business and to form future strategic alliances,” said Joe Tang, co-founder and CEO, AuctionPoint.

Anderson’s venture marked the second high profile investment in AuctionPoint recently, further demonstrating investor confidence in the company. In March 2010, AuctionPoint announced a strategic investment from LoopNet, Inc., operator of the largest online commercial real estate marketplace.

Since its launch, AuctionPoint’s first-of-its-kind technology has become the winning solution for many commercial real estate brokers looking for an effective way to sell property at full market value. Brokers from leading firms including CB Richard Ellis, Grubb & Ellis, Coldwell Banker Commercial and Cushman & Wakefield have used the platform to auction their properties.

About AuctionPoint

AuctionPoint, an innovative online auction platform, is changing the way the commercial real estate industry does business. At a time when the market is at a standstill, auctions create liquidity – motivating buyers to act and closing the gap between buyer and seller pricing expectations. Created by technology entrepreneur Joe Tang and real estate developer Keith Yang, AuctionPoint enables commercial real estate brokers to auction properties online under their name and brand, while keeping their full commission. LoopNet, the largest and most heavily trafficked commercial real estate listing service online, became a strategic investor in 2010 and now markets AuctionPoint as its exclusive online auction offering. AuctionPoint’s broker-centric platform, coupled with the national reach and database of LoopNet, form a unique set of tools that empower commercial real estate brokers to accelerate the disposition process. Slingshot Labs, the R&D arm of MySpace recently saw two of their key executives resign. The two executives are EVP of Strategy and Product Diego Berkadin and President Josh Berman. According to a source with TechCrunch, the two executives gave in their resignations to News Corp. Digital Chief Jon Miller last week. Slingshot Labs is supposed to be working on a “LinkedIn Killer” service that would be integrated with The Wall Street Journal. The progress on that project is unknown.

Another reason why Berman’s resignation is significant is because this means that all of MySpace founders are no longer with News Corporation. Josh Berman was COO of MySpace when News Corp. bought them out. Chris DeWolf, Tom Anderson, Aber Whitcomb, and Colin Digiaro did not stick around for long after News Corp. bought MySpace. Judd Apatow’s newest movie Funny People takes a few swipes at making fun of celebrities such as Megan Fox and Jon Favreau. But in an unexpected move, Funny People also target Craigslist founder Craig Newmark and MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson.

A question that was asked in the movie was who would win a fight between Newmark and Anderson. Nobody could answer the question in the movie, but Newmark himself responded. “We’d fight like nerds to the embarrassment of all,” quipped Newmark.

Funny People made $22 million in the opening weekend. The movie stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Eric Bana, and Jason Schwartzman. Last month, Jonah Hill discussed a fake Twitter account using his name on Letterman.

Chris DeWolfe is one of the MySpace creators and was the CEO as of yesterday. Now that he is out of the CEO position, there is a chance that former Facebook COO Owen Van Natta will be recruited. Supposedly Natta left Facebook because he wanted to be CEO, but Zuckerberg did not accept that. Sheryl Sandberg ended up replacing Natta.

Jon Miller is working on the details with Natta according to AllThingsD. News Corp. was not planning to have DeWolfe leave the company but then TechCrunch reported that the company was looking for a replacement. DeWolfe and Miller then started negotiating over the phone. Both MySpace founders Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson will end up on different roles within News Corp.

Below is the internal e-mail sent out to News Corp. (Fox Interactive Media) employees:

To FIM Employees:

I am writing to share the news that MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe will be stepping down from his executive role in the near future. He has agreed to serve as a strategic advisor to the Company and will remain on the board of MySpace China.

In addition, I am currently in discussions with MySpace President Tom Anderson regarding his role within the organization.

I want to take this opportunity to thank them both for their incredible contributions to the Company, and for pioneering one of the greatest social media revolutions of our time. I wish Chris nothing but the best in any new endeavors and, like many in this industry, am eager to witness his next innovations.

I understand the importance of having a dynamic, inspiring and innovative management team, and am dedicated to ensuring that MySpace continues to benefit from the highest levels of passion and enthusiasm.

I also want to thank everyone across FIM for giving me the opportunity to work with all of you. With MySpace, IGN, Photobucket, Fox Audience Network and our Digital Publishing Group, this is an exciting collective of properties and I’m enthusiastic about the opportunities that lie ahead.

I hope to meet and work closely with many of you over the weeks and months to come.

Best regards,

Jonathan Miller
